Guardzilla Outdoor HD WiFi Security Camera with Night Vision and Weatherproof Construction

I really want to like this because the alternatives currently are waay more expensive. I purchased one to see if I should invest in the remaining 3 I needed. This was a pain to setup. Firstly, if you have to make sure that you have 2.4 ghz wifi. If you have dual band you have to make sure you can shut off your 5 ghz band. If you don't, newer mobile devices with auto connect to 5 ghz and you will not be able to configure this camera. That was the first problem. After jumping through hoops, I got it setup and running. This worked well for the first two days, the motion detection triggered when armed and auto recorded videos on the device itself. It was located outside a door that was next to the room my wifi router is in, so i had a 99+ signal strength. While there was a long delay "waking" the camera from mobile device, I was able to access the videos easily via phone. Then it lost connection. the batteries were good, but I replaced them just to be sure. Had to reconfigure the whole thing to get it to reconnect (see pain above) to wifi. Then another two to three days went by of normal function and it lost connection again. Again i had to reset the camera and reconfigure it. When this happened the third time within the first two weeks of owning this, I returned it.

Was somewhat frustrating. I could not get past the almost finished page until I removed the batteries and connected the electrical cord. And these are new Energizer lithium. After that all was fine. I actually tried for 3 hours and at first I thought I had 1 or more weak batteries. I now have the unit on the house and am actually online with the batteries. Go figure!

So discussed. This is my first review of a product.I have had several security camera over the years. I even have a Guardzilla right now and I love it. This particular camera is the worst I have ever had to deal with. WHO INVENTED THE TIME OUT? I can possibly see if it is running on batteries but when plugged into an outlet? COME ON. I must say I have had other cameras that ran on batteries with no time out and its never drained the batteries so fast I would wish for a time out. There is such a thing as rechargeable batteries. I could also only get the camera to play on one phone. The recording part never did record when on alerts. I guess it was having trouble waking up, because I was waving my hands in front of it. Every time I would go to my phone to look, it had to wake up. Should I ask the intruder to please STOP AND WAIT FOR MY CAMERA TO WAKE UP?. I sent this thing back as fast as it came. I am so glad we can give separate reviews on the seller and the product. The seller of this product did his part promptly and I gave him a good review. This camera does not even deserve the 1 star. I was so mad and upset with this product. I ordered an entirely new system of cameras and am after years replacing my indoor Guadrzilla system.

I purchased two cameras - one for inside and one for outside. Both have solid wi-fi signals. The unit inside is plugged and and for the most part works as expected. Set up was easy and the app works well. However, the outside camera with battery option has done nothing but disappoint. First off, it eats through batteries so you HAVE to have it plugged in. Second, it seems to not like the cold (I’m talking 30 - 50 degrees). When it is cold the unit is off line. What is worse is that once the unit has been off line it won’t handshake with the network again unless it is inplugged and plugged in again. So, if you are away for a few days you might not have a camera until you return home again.

This camera has the potential to be more than it currently is. I bought this camera to monitor my front door by looking through a window at the front door area. Only after I got it installed, along with my four internal Guardzilla house cameras, did I find that it goes to sleep after two minutes. I contacted support asking where I go in the app menu to stop the timeout. Support informed me that the timeout was a "feature" designed to save batteries. I told support that I have it plugged into power at all times, never use batteries, and I do not want it to time out. Unfortunately, there is no setting that prevents the time out, whether on house outlet power or batteries. The support person said that they would get around to adding a switch to the app that allows you to configure the camera for no time out. It has been months now, with no changes. There was a major upgrade of the app the other day, but it was to offer full-time monitoring for a fee, but nothing to stop the time out. The camera works well enough when it is awake. It has a wide-angle lens that encompasses a wide area and is very sharp so that it is easy to see good detail. It seems inconsistent with detecting motion through a window, sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. I would give the camera a much higher rating if it were not for the two-minute timeout. I do not run this thing on batteries, so it is ridiculous that it times out to "save power." I don't want to save power, I want to monitor who is knocking at my front door. Fix this foolishness GuardZilla and I will up my rating for an otherwise reasonable camera.

I purchased this camera not for security but more as a monitor to watch my son as he says in the back yard. It works well for that. Actually I was thrilled that while I was out of the country on a work trip, I could watch him play from 5000 miles away. Worth the money. I like the fact that its weather proof, so I may buy a second to mount in a different area to cover a blind spot.
