So the description says "for sony fe" but in the mount compatibility it says canon ef. do i need a canon -> sony adapter to use this lens?

When mine arrived, it was, in fact for a Sony EF mount camera body; no adapter needed. If you order yours and it is incorrect based on the description, you should be able to return it to amazon for a full refund by selecting the option for “incorrect description” as the reason for returning.
