Highly recommended for an attic or out of the way installation
Have only tested the product in place at this point. It is located in my attic using an insulated duct that also has another layer of insulation around it. When on full, as I tested it, yes you could hear the flow of air as it moves a lot of air. However, it is not what I expected reading some of the other reviews. Once I have my speed adjustment working, I will not need to use the full volume. Bottom line, much quieter then expected. Do not suggest using this in an open space or the noise might be an issue, but for an enclosed area......does the trick. Highly recommended for an attic or out of the way installation.

No quieter than most others but an awesome fan nonetheless.
When you first turn this thing on it sounds loud, until you realize that's the sound of all that air moving, not the motor. I do think the "ultra quiet" claim is a bit of stretch, considering it's exactly the same decibels as almost all of the other top choices, but it is a great fan. Even dialed all the way down with a speed controller (sold separately) it still moves a ton of air. And it looks cool too!

its not quiet, but its much quieter then any other fan i'v tried.
its not as efficient as a hyperfan, but it is much quieter, and the built in back-draft damper works good too.

Removes unwanted air
This fan moves serious amounts of air. A spring on the damper was broken, so the damper wouldn't close. Contacted Vortex and they sent me two new dampers. Overall this is a quiet fan, the noise is the air moving at high speed. Installed a variable speed controller and the fan will run perfectly from 1-100%

Really powerful fan!
I installed this fan in an office along with some creative duct work to suck cigar smoke out of the room and vent it outside. I was a little taken by the power of this fan but once I installed a fan speed control switch to go along with it, the lower - medium speed settings are perfect for both noise level and air flow requirements. Very nice fan, I'm glad I spent the extra bucks to get the high end model.

Buy the trusted metal fan!
This was a very bad purchase decision. There are good things about this fan that I'll discuss first. It's light, and the yolk that it mounts in makes it very easy to turn the fan over and run it the opposite direction. But ... Its loud. I use a speed control with it and throttle it down, but its still ... loud. I don't know why the description of this fan indicates that it may be quieter than the other metal fans. I have 3 of the Vortex metal fans and absolutely love them. This S series one will be replaced as soon as I can save a few pennies. It was only a few dollars cheaper than the metal fan to begin with. I was hoping this fan would improve upon what was already the best fan I've ever used. It was a nearly $200 mistake.

Great Fan!
I bought this fan to exhaust heat generated by 3 10hp pump motors in an underground vault. I really like the hard plastic construction of the fan housing, as the location is in SW Florida in a high humidity environment. I also like the sealed bearing brushless motor! The fan moves a lot of air very quietly and vibration free. I also like the mounting bracket, as it is easy to install and gives a sealed fit when coupled up to my 8" PVC vent exhaust pipe. I highly recommend this fan!

Moves a ton of air.
It works really well. Easy to install. It is relatively quite but a little louder than I was expecting, but it does move a lot of air, so it's ok. I use it with a control switch and am happy with the purchase.

Likey
Me likey a lot :-) You would need the dial-a-temp thingy from them, to lower the speed. Almost nothing, from what I heard, is compatible with it.

Very powerful
This fan is being used to extract welding fumes in a small hobby shed. It's very powerful, not too noisy and the setup was easy. I recommend this wholeheartedly!

What the hell is this
Noisy as hell! I don't know what quiet means in the world of vortex but it is like an airplane engine! Bought a infinity blower T8... comes with controller, temp controller and way more quiet!
