Not to many photos and I don't like the maps
I'M not too thrilled by this book. This is a diary of the tank bat.[ equipped with Stu.G III.] of the 3rd Panzergrenadier Division. It covers the unit fromrebuilding [original destroyed Stalingrad ] To its deployment in Italy .This one is dry ,very dry reading. That said, it was still one of the only a fewGerman tank units[again with assaultguns]to contain the Allies at ANZIO!!!Not to many photos and I don't like the maps. You can't give it 3.5 stars. Very interesting unit history. Not all that exciting but if you are interested in the nuts and bolts of how the assault artillery worked, the various repair and maintenance issues that any battalion went thorough it is a worthwhile book.

StuGs in Italy
Detailed diary entries are the most interesting part this book, but otherwise very minimalistic illustrations (only few photographs) and overall, the pages are mostly flooded with names, dates and locations.

Armour in Italy
This is really a translation of the unit war diaries for the period September 1943 - August 1944. Unlike the similarly titled books from Stackpole there are no interviews or memoirs from unit personnel. The diary records the day-to -day minutiae of a combat unit from personnel changes and supply requests to operational states and after-combat reports. The original Panzer-Abteilung 103 was destroyed at Stalingrad and was reformed in March 1943, equipped with Sturmgeshutz III in lieu of tanks and sent to Italy in June. Where it was in action more or less continuously from September !943 until it was transferred to France the following August. The intensity of combat can be discerned from the reports and returns in the diary. The way the tank crews adapted to their unfamiliar weapons and the Herculean efforts of the maintenance unit are also seen. The unit found the time to create a Panzer-jager unit with Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust and mounted in captured Universal Carriers. There is a disappointing, if understandable, shortage of photographs. Those of the units StuGs are all Allied pictures of knocked out or abandoned examples, only the well-known photos of the Panzer-jager unit being German. There are lots of pictures of combat maps but some general maps showing areas of operation would have been helpful. This might be a bit specialised for a general reader but is a valuable addition to the literature.
