Surprisingly fun, despite a lot of changes from previous editions.
I was skeptical about this "online only" style of play, especially what amounts to essentially microtransactions to play the songs you want without grinding, but it's actually a great deal of fun. Playing along with music videos is thoroughly entertaining and although you can't play two-player in that mode, it's still good fun to rotate players in a group. The new format for buttons is challenging at first, but actually becomes quite intuitive. The biggest issue seems to be just remembering which is the top row and which is the bottom row (although that probably comes easily with practice). No drums with this game, which may be a deal-breaker for some. The drums are the most expensive part of any guitar hero/rock band game so if you don't think you'll need them, you can save quite a bit of money.

The most misleading and atrocious business model a game has ever had.
The most misleading and atrocious business model a game has ever had. The game advertises hundreds of songs to play. While this is true it is very misleading because it doesn't tell you that you have to pay in order to stream most of the songs. That's right stream the song. You never get to download any of them. You have to pay per play. This pay per play is cleverly left out of the games description. The worst part about streaming the song is that you can have network issues mess you up. Latency and stuttering are issues. You also can't replay the song if you mess up unless you want to pay for it again. The game actively discourages players to get better as it will cost money every time you want to practice. You do get 40 songs on the disc to play. 90% of them are terrible songs that should never have been put into GH from the start (Same is true for GHTV). Not bashing the songs themselves. They are just bad picks for a game based around playing a guitar (like all the EDM and Hip-Hop songs). You can grind the weekly songs and not have to pay (You play what comes up. You don't have a choice). You can also pay $6 for a 24 hour unlimited play. Activision built the game to make them as much money as possible.

Good quality, easy setup, but more popular songs needed?
Easy to set up and worked as expected. The Guitar quality feels good too. I was decent on the old four button system but not sure I'll be able to make the jump to six buttons(two rows of 3). Going up one level from easy seems to be a huge jump in difficulty. I choose this over Rock Band because I thought you can get more song without having to buy more and for the most part that is true but.. for two people to play at the same time the songs are limited and I don't think there is a way to add to the off line list beyond what you can easily unlock. Also the off line mode is not cooperative, only competitive, as you get the exact same buttons. I believe in the past you could choose to play lead, rhythm, or base and do a coop. Then to get more songs you have to play competivly online. The songs are random, mostly not very popular songs and can only be played by one person at a time. It's easy enough to earn credits to unlock more songs, but I think that is temporary, only good for playing a song a limited amount of times, online only? That is about as far as I got so far, as I got a bit discouraged playing unfamiliar heavy metal songs one right after another. I feel I need to do some research and see if there is something I am missing.

BUY TWO WHILE THEIR ON SALE.
This guitar hero is way better than i though it was going to be.it reminds me of mtv in the 80's only it's interactive, the videos are cool and earning coins is very fun and addictive, all two of the guitars and dongles work excellent without a flaw.you can tell they put alot of work and thought into this game.the guitars look very nice and classy,i still play the playstation 2 guitar hero also but this new version blows it away.amazon ships fast and packs it very safely boxed.you won't regret buying this in fact i bought two one to save for later.

Guitar Controllers are Garbage and Don't Work Out of the Box
I received this game one day ago. After unpackaging I attempted to play the game with both guitars. Neither of the guitars functioned at a level suitable to play the game. By looking at the screen, you can see what buttons the device thinks you are pressing. At times the buttons were slow to respond (switch from one chord to another didn't register on the screen quick enough for me to strum the chords). At other times the buttons were either stuck or the guitar didn't recognize that I was no longer pressing the buttons (when switch chords, the last chord (or series of buttons) remained highlighted on the screen even though I had changed the buttons I was pressing). This made, what looks like a nice game, unplayable. I'll update this when I receive replacement guitars.

More guitar strumming problems for me.
I have been playing the guitar hero series for years, and seeing the new version drop to $50 for a 2-guitar bundle was just too good for me to pass up. But that was about the only good thing about this. I only played this for about 3 hours and I've already given up. I like the new guitar button design, it really does present a new challenge to experienced players. What don't I like? The strum bar Does. Not. Work. After about an hour of playing tonight and getting 4-5 stars on most songs I was playing for the first time, I suddenly couldn't string together more than 4-5 notes at a time and sometimes I was even lucky to get 2 or 3. I wasn't missing notes or chords, the game wasn't recording that I was strumming. Then, it would sense that I was strumming while I was holding a note and break my streak also...The track list is also very bizarre. I feel like the developers tried to appeal to everybody, which in turn will not appeal to most players due to such a diverse range of songs. Going from Linkin Park to Eminem to Skrillex to Avril Lavigne to Mumford and Sons... the tempo and feel of the game changed with every new "set" you are playing "live". If the guitars worked, I could totally look past this, but attempting to play a bunch of songs I've never heard with the crowd sometimes drowning out the actual guitar track and a guitar that doesn't work are just too much to overcome.
