V-Line Ind. Top Draw XD Quick Access Pistol Safe, Black

So this is an extremely solid and heavy safe. I have it bolted into a nightstand drawer and it fits exactly what you need it to hold. Maybe only downside is it’s a little heavy so if your nightstand is very light, it could tip it over when you pull out the drawer quickly, so just be aware. Otherwise it’s easy to set and open the lock and it feels like it’ll be ready whenever needed.REGARDING MODEL VERSIONS: The V-Line Top Draw “XD” is the upgraded version of the original V-Line Top Draw. The XD comes with an additional piece of metal that protects the back of the simplex locking mechanism so that the mechanism can’t be forced/jammed downward into the safe to defeat the lock (see picture). So if you are looking for a better version of the Top Draw, this XD is your pick. I didn’t see any reviews on this when I bought it so hopefully this explanation helps.

Did exactly as described. Read reviews and evaluated to buy. Thumbs up! Even accidentally locked self out. Instructions to reset was easy to get me back on track. First time buyer.

Heavy box that feels sturdy. Bought to keep home defense pistols away from curious hands, but still quickly accessible. Mechanical lock means not having to worry about batteries which is a huge plus for me.Only gripe I have is I wish it had a piston to keep lid open when reaching in.

Love that it has a mechanical lock (Simplex), no batteries to replace or go dead just when you need your pistol. And it can be opened quickly and relatively quietly.The interior has a foam pad, but the side walls are bare steel. SEE PHOTOS: I added sticky back foam to cover the metal walls.This is the upgraded XD Top Draw version with a heavy metal cover over the interior lock. SEE PHOTO: there are two bolts to unscrew and remove the cover in order to change the lock combination. This is inconvenient, but explained well in the enclosed instructions.Two handguns easily fit in the box (8 1/2 inches by 11 3/4 inches), SEE PHOTO.The lock is under the foam on the lid, but restricts the space inside the box. For example, you won't be able to close the lid all the way if you place a thick gun directly under the lock. As long as you adjust the position of the guns this won't be a problem.The safe doesn't come equipped with a way to secure it in place. Someone could walk off with it. What it does well is keep guns away from others and still easily accessible for you. There is no security cable to fasten it to a stationary object. You can purchase a V-Line quick release bracket that can secure the box to a flat surface, but it isn't cheap (usually under $50) and it isn't "quick."On the bottom of the safe are 4 pre-cut holes to fasten the quick release bracket, but for a DIY person they could also be used to bolt it down to something secure. SEE PHOTO of the holes. The felt pads seen on the bottom, I added to prevent the box scratching my dresser top.Overall I love the safe, the mechanical lock and heavy-duty construction.

I needed a bedside pistol safe, one that I could always rely on to open regardless if I had recently changed the batteries or not. This V-Line safe does just that. I can have it opened in no time, in the pitch dark, and no worries about a dead battery and then fumbling for a backup key. V-Line safes just work. Highly reccomend.

The safe is designed to keep a handgun out of unwanted hands (children). If you do a little reading you will find it is not rated for any sort of theft prevention (aside from the reinforced lock). It is great for this purpose and if you are looking for something more antitheft check out the brute. The lock reinforcement needs to be removed to reset the factory combination but the directions are straight forward and it is easy to do. The inside of the safe is padded to protect your firearm a bit but this results in the internal space being quite shallow and leads to two things I wish knew or had realized before hand but ultimately I don’t think they would have changed my decision. #1 in this shallow set up the lock reinforcement takes up enough space to prevent the lid from closing if you place the firearm directly under it. There is still plenty of room for a (one) full-size but it would be difficult to get two in there in such a way that you could close the lid and still be able to easily get them out. The second thing this shallow profile results in is the foam padding pressing up against the firearm. This is going to lead to moisture being trapped against the firearm and isn’t great for its life. To their credit v-line included a free corrosion inhibitor patch to help with this but I would plan on buying a small desiccant pack if you live anywhere that isn’t super dry and are going to be storing anything with metal parts in this box. On the whole solid product that is going to do what it’s advertising.

Works like it should. It's a basic safe, with nothing fancy. That is why I bought it. No worrying about changing out batteries, not working when you need it, etc.
