Budget microphone for great sounding audio!
The mic comes in a sturdy box with what looks like to be some sort of generic studio microphone graphics and no branding on whatsoever. Very typical of Chinese reproduction! Inside you get the microphone itself, an anti wind foam cap, an all metal shock mount, a 3m XLR to 3.5mm cable and some very basic instructions & Warranty card.Additionally to the microphone itself I recommend buying some other pieces of equipment if you’re wanting to connect it to a PC or Mac.You may need a USB Sound Adapter, so that you have a sufficient audio/mic input for the mic as some macs don’t come with a 3.5mm microphone input built in. To complete the setup I decided on a Neewer scissor boom to keep my mic safe and accessible when creating voiceovers. The actual microphone itself looks pretty neat! It has an all metal body, consisting of Zinc alloy and steel. It feels really solid and has a nice weighty feel to it coming in at 230g. In my opinion the mic looks more expensive than it actually was and is a great addition to you desk set up! Spec wise the mic has a Frequency Response of 20Hz-20kHz & sensitivity of up to 45db. We must note that this is also a uni-directional microphone and is not designed to pick up all surrounding audio. You get a rather decent shock mount as well. Again the quality feels great and is a solid piece of kit. I’ve seen some mounts retailing for at least the price of this microphone package, so it could be worth it for that in itself! The mic really isn’t too bad at all! It gives a nice crisp and bright sound to your voice. It is a unidirectional microphone so it does require that you speak directly into it to produce a clear sound, but for use as a general voiceover mic or situations where you only need to pick up sound from a specific area the mic does the job well! The only small drawback I could find is the small gold ring moves fairly freely on the mic and gives off a slight rattle when moving it around but that isn’t a major issue at all as most won’t be intending to jump around with it. I was sceptical about it’s performance but you’re definitely getting bang for your buck here!
