The upper level – made of cork serves as a fruit bowl. The lower level - made of ceramic acts as a mini pantry to store potatoes, onions, beets and other root vegetables, as well as fruit that is not ripe enough. The natural properties of the cork help preserve the fruit and keeps it fresh for longer and keeps pesky fruit flies at bay. The ceramic body keeps the light out while the holes in the bowl help for air circulation, and together with the insulating properties of the cork lid, they help maintain a constant temperature, much like in an old school cellar. Works great!
This bowl is awesome! It matches my dishes, and the onions and garlic really do stay fresh in the bottom compartment. Fruit seems to last longer on the top portion too. It's a bit pricey for a fruit bowl but I use it almost every time I cook, and it's way more convenient that storing onions elsewhere. Also it's pretty to look at!

Poorly packaged expensive bowl
Purchased as a warehouse deal for $95. Arrived in pieces. The box it comes in has no padding and it appears that no other precautions were taken to protect it during transit. Very disappointing!

Seems to work as advertised
I've only had a few weeks but seemenly good results to this point can update maybe later. Beautiful bowl with nice cork lid.

Broken and wrong item
The item came completely shattered, and it was the wrong color and size. Pretty disappointed!
