I have twin boys with two iPads. If I bought two sets, are the Bluetooth ids different? Can they be run independently from different iPads?

Accepted Answer

Since the Cubelets Bluetooth Hat utilizes BLE, there is no need for different Bluetooth IDs. You will not need to pair the Bluetooth Hat in the settings of the device, you can simply open the Cubelets Discovery app and hold the Bluetooth Hat attached to the Battery Cubelet close to the iPad and it will pair automatically. While not needed for pairing, each Bluetooth Hat does have a unique 3 color sequence that it flashes when first connected to the Battery Cubelet tell the two Bluetooth Hats apart.

Once paired, there won't be any interference between the two separate iPads and Cubelets robot constructions. If your twins are playing in close proximity and both detach and re-attach their Bluetooth Hats at the same time, it is possible that they can "trade" who is controlling which construction. In that case, the Bluetooth Hat will pair to the closest iPad. It only takes a few seconds for the Bluetooth Hat to re-pair, so this problem should not arise unless they detach and re-attach the Bluetooth hat at the same time. If it happens, they can just detach the Hat again and make sure to hold their construction close to their individual iPads.

what functions does each cubelet have?  The 6 set has a drive, flashlight, distance, brightness, passive, and battery.  What do these 4 cubes do?

Each Cubelet is categorized as either a SENSE, THINK, or ACT Cubelet. The Distance and Brightness are SENSE Cubelets that measure the distance from the sensor and light in the room respectively. The SENSE Cubelets communicate their reading to the ACT Cubelets, the Drive (wheels) and Flashlight (LED) which act upon that information the sensors are taking in. The Passive Cubelet, a THINK Cubelet, passes along information between the SENSE and THINK Cubelets and helps you to build out your robot. Some THINK Cubelets, like the Inverse (no included), will alter the data from the SENSE Cubelets as it passes through.
