I had doubts, but it works!
In the heat and humidity of Florida summers, the gnats can drive one insane. This device has a steep price tag, and the description sounds a little exaggerated--like a sales pitch. But fly-tapes don't work--they catch 'em, but they are SO messy (touch one with the elbow of a shirt, and by the time you've gotten loose, the shirt is ruined). Sprays don't work that well--they can't keep up with the gnats' reproductive rate--and you toxify everything else in the room. So in desperation I tried the Katchy. It comes professionally packaged--reminding me slightly of an iPhone. But once out of the boxes, I became suspicious. It's just a blue (ultraviolet?) light over a vacuuming fan blowing on a circle of sticky paper. I thought, oh, no, this thing is for mosquitoes! I don't have problems with them. But I turned it on. I let it run for an hour or so, wondering if it would catch anything--that particular day there didn't seem to be any gnats (I had emptied all the garbage). I checked it. Happily the bottom is hinged, and with a click of the release, it drops down, revealing the circle of sticky paper. Five captures! I was impressed. I let it run for the rest of the day (again, this was a day in which the gnat problem wasn't bad), and I saw its sticky floor was sprinkled with a dozen or more, including other bugs. As a loyal American who respects tradition (and therefore never reads the instruction manual first) I ran the thing all day and night, then found out the instructions are to run it only at night! I don't know about that. I am not bothered by gnats at night. I am bothered by them in the daytime. The unit has two controls: manual and automatic (which means it turns on/off with sunset/sunrise). By now the sticky disc is carpeted with gnats (yahoo!), but if I let it turn off during the day, I begin to see gnats again. My compromise is this: I let it run at night, but if I see a gnat by day, I turn it on manually for a few hours. My only criticism is that it's quite large--hard to place both near me and near the garbage--I mean, I can live with gnats in the garbage until I take it out; its those that pester ME that brought the Katchy to my home. But life is good. The gnat problem is controlled. It remains to be seen how long this device lasts before wearing out. I does have moving parts. BTW, I've never seen a survey question for "Adhesion" before. Guessing it refers to how many bugs get stuck permanently on the disk (which implies past problems with escapees?), I gave it a 3 because I honestly don't know how many if any fly back out of it. As of now the sticky disc is covered with dead gnats and other bugs, and it's about due for a replacement. So far, it's great!

So much better than a bowl of vinegar!
So easy to use, and attracts the little black flies like a magnet. Loved it so much bought one for the basement, main floor and the second floor, ..Just check out the picture, that's after a few days. No more flies buzzing around while I'm working. No more flies dropping into my tea when I'm not around. Virtually no sign of the wee buggers after a few days. The basement 'pad' was nearly full! Any sticky pad thingy will work too, so don't worry about the price of replacement pads...although, generic ones are very, very cheap and all so easy to work with. Just...plug it in, put the pad in the base, turn it on..and no more fuss! The UV light attracts them..the fan sucks them in (and it's really quiet..simple low lever white noise) and the sticky pads trap them. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Great piece of kit
I had issues with tiny flies in my flat and this works perfectly. I put it in the kitchen area and it automatically flicks itself on at night, then hums quietly and glows while it does its work. After a few days use I have no flies zipping about and they’re stuck in the bottom on the paper. I’ll keep it running though just to make sure they don’t come back and the population builds up again.
