Chinese Mythology introduced properly.
I enjoyed learning about Chinese Mythology. I guess that I had not really ever thought about it before but in reading this book I discovered that I really was unaware of the mythology of the Chinese people. This is a short book that can be read in just a few hours, it is a great introduction. I recommend that you purchase and read this book.

A Quick Overview Of Chinese Legends
A Quick Overview Of ChinaI wanted this book as a way of understanding China as a cultural way of understanding its past. The book is short, or at least for the length of the subject at hand. One can say that it is a slight negative, but not by much. As the author mentions, the length was not about covering the subject. It was to whet the reader's appetite. The reader would delve deeper to find more. The ancient myths tend to follow a historical path common to many world mythologies. But, as time passes, they develop a unique aura from the country they are from. The characters form from legends of mythos down to exaggerated superheroes. Many of the stories I could envision as a cast of an anime TV show showered with an ever more present hinting of Taoism and Buddhism. This plays out from the over-elaborate version of the Monkey King down to the colorful Gourd children in modern storytelling. The one story I did not understand was that of the three kingdoms. I have read about this time and it seems to present a straight narrative on how the kingdom divides after fulfilling the mandate of heaven. While it was less magical than other stories, it still fit within its context. If I could, I would give this book a 4.5.
