A very useful item, especially for the beginner.
This useful guide measures only 11" x 3" and has the five major pentatonic scale shapes and notes colour coded on one side, and the five minor (similar) shapes and notes colour coded on the other side. Though the major and minor shapes are the same, the root note changes. Very easy to read and the scale root can be set to any note on the major or minor side. Set note G as the root on the major shape side, and note E automatically appears as the root on the minor shape side. The five colour coded shapes are very clear and easy to follow. Also indicated are the missing notes to make the diatonic scale in any key, the minor 3rd in each key for the "blue" note, the seven modes, and the notes shared between scale shapes. Much more convenient than having to fumble through a book. You can practice with this on your lap with all the necessary info in front of you. My only gripe is that the enclosed instructions are not the easiest to follow, though once sorted out, the shape guide is very easy to use. Very clever and useful. Probably a wee bit expensive, but it certainly works.

great learning aid
fantastic little learning aid, nice and clear with some instructions too I would recommend this for beginners, advance beginners and intermediate players nice to have on hand when practicing.and to the guy whining about copyright -1. the product is massively different to your design and you cannot copyright the content as you do not own the musical scales, you could only copyright your slide mechanism, but this one differs to your design2. there is nothing stopping you mass producing and selling yours on here as you clearly have had this for many many years so you have lost out due to a lack of motivation or business initiative.3. its never too late, so take it upon yourself to get your product out there.

A colourful addition to the guitarist's toolbox
The slide rule seemed a tad pricey, but you only need one and I'm glad I bought it. It's brightly colour-coded and clearly shows the 5 positions of the pentatonic scales, both Major and Minor. If you line up the A note at the 5th fret [minor pent.] you will see in glorious red the shape and note names of the scale in that position - along with the shapes adjacent up and down the neck. Whip the slide rule over and you now have the C Major pent clearly displayed. Cunning or wot?For lovers of Greek architecture there are also references to Aeolian and Ionian [and other] modes - way beond this guy's paycheck to evaluate! All in all; a clever invention and a recommended buy!

Great product, very useful and easy to understand
Just sorry I didn't discover this earlier, would have saved marking out scales on pages.

Top British Product.
If you play electric you need these patterns.

Disappointing quality.
The idea is a great one. Unfortunately, the quality of the actual product is hugely disappointing. Very flimsy and has the feel of a teenager's school project. Shame it couldn't be better made as I seriously doubt it will last very long.

I Patented this over forty years ago. They should do a Patent search, which proves Copyright too.
Mine is better even though I invented it over forty years ago. What a rip-off of my Copyright. They should do searches before making it, to honour MY COPYRIGHT!!! Mine is loads better anyway. Any Copyright Lawyers what to get involved?

Superb tool, and well worth the price
Excellent, A++ learning tool for pentatonic scales, diatonic and minor scales, blues scales, and all seven modes. If you learn these five shapes backward and forward and inside-out (each shape is a different color on the slide rule), you will be the master of your fretboard. I bought it primarily to help me unravel the Mystery of the Modes -- I've tried several different ways to do this, but none of them are as visual, clear, and simple as this slide rule.Is it worth thirty bucks? For me, absolutely yes. I've spent more than that on flash cards and posters, and none of them have helped me half as much as this slide rule. Yes, it's $30 for paper and plastic -- but you're paying for the careful thought and planning that went into the layout and design of this very useful teaching tool.Customer service is also superb. I received a defective ruler (a couple of the cutout windows were missing). I contacted them, they said they had a defective run, and would send me a new one as soon as it was available. Took a couple weeks, but it got here, as promised. Well done! The con's don't matter very much: 1) It smells funky, like the mothballs and cedar in my grandmother's closet. I think it's the laminate coating, on the inside of the plastic sleeve. The smell fades after a couple weeks. 2) The instruction sheet crams way too much information into a small space, and isn't all that helpful. It would be better if they cut it by about 50%. The tool is so simple, though, that anyone who's already been exposed to fretboard maps won't have any trouble at all.Thank you, Rise & Shine -- you've made me a happier guitar student!

Great Tool, For learning how the scales work with the caged system.
It's a great way to see how the caged system works with the scales. It's an excellent learning tool; my only complaint is that the font needs to be bolder so it's easier to see.
