This is an excellent book that addresses religious commodification, modernity, capitalism, branding, and related issues in Islamic products. The author gives us a wonderful study of the ways in which piety is branded that includes numerous examples from around the world. The discussions of fraudulent halal foods, for example, are documented with numerous examples. This book is supplemented with great imagery—including of Islamic ad campaign from Iran to Indonesia and everywhere in between. Ideal for students and scholars, but a great read for everyone. This would also be a great book for courses on Islam and modernity, religion and modernity, and more. The author writes in a style that is accessible. I could hardly put this book down once I started it.
