Is this actually better than putting regular Dawn liquid onto a sponge, or is the foaming stuff just a gimmick?

Actually, this stuff is way better than Dawn liquid. I use both, the plain liquid for dishes everyday. This foam is great for greasy or sticky messes. The best part, if I have a stubborn stain on clothing, I use a tiny (tiny) amount of this on it, let it sit a bit then put it in the wash. Spot is gone. There is a large refill bottle available.

Does this dawn for washing by hands

Yes. If you only have a few dishes it works really good.

Does it work with other foaming soap dispensers? the dawn ones put out waaayyy more soap per pump than i will ever need to use at one time.

I've tried the Method hand soap foaming dispenser after my Dawn dispenser stopped working. The Method bottle does NOT work well, doesn't foam enough with that concentrate. I'm still looking for other solutions... will post an update
