An uncomfortable but valuable read
As a western, privately educated, white, hetero male it is remarkably easy to be unaware that on my worst day I have it better than most of the people who's stories are told in this book and then writers like Caroline Criado-Perez or Laura Bates come along and kick down the walls of complacency a bit. This book doesn't waste time and limit access by using the coded language of gender but in plain, well crafted words tells the stories of dozens of women around the world who are simply trying to live what should be normal lives and finding their way blocked by societies that, often unconciously sometimes calculatingly conciously, are shaped to favour we men.I found it informative, I found it upsetting, I found myself angry that these smart people were being systematically shut down time and again. I found myself deeply uncomfortable when I recognised some of these behavious in myself. The tragedy in so many of these stories was that even when many of the women win they still somehow end up being punished for their success.Overall a valuable read and one that I hope will make me stop and think about whether I am treating the women I encounter with the respect they are due.

As a male and rather chauvinistic one at that, it's fair to say this book came as something of a shock.I hadn't fully appreciated how ingrained gender discrimination really is in all walks of life..women seem to have a variety of barriers to overcome beyond whether they are simply as competent as males. However it's fair to say that these women kick ass and men's asses at that!!..they are ambitious and determined.. something that should worry men pretty much everywhere..as it is clear that these women are successfully chipping away at the patriarchal system. The fact that this male sometimes felt so uncomfortable reading his book is probably proof it is working.

Forget the bad reviews on this book as they're well off mark
Forget the bad reviews on this book as they're well off mark. Caroline doesn't need to write about the abuse she has recieved as it's already well documented. This book covers many inspirong women and their stories. They need to be read! Things need to change. Women need to lead the way. Men have had their chance over the past couple of 1000 years and messed it up! Inspiring women seen in this book really could make change happen.
