"Ergonomic" often means it's good for right-handed people. Does this work for us southpaws?

The left and right click buttons do not change. I use the mouse in both hands. This depends on what my dominant hand is doing at the time. It works.

Will this work with Linux and does it need drivers or software?

Most recent linux has generic drivers to accept plug & play devices like mice and keyboards, but I can't guarantee this one will work without drivers ?

can I use this with a Chromebook?

Yes, my students use them with Chromebooks.

Will this work with a HP desk top?

Not sure about the desktop but it sure worked in my HP laptop.
