Technologically challenged creates magical theater experience!
We wanted to replace our old Panasonic system from 2007, but knowing nothing of what makes a goid home projector, we felt in over our heads. We did a lot of research about what to look for and what is ideal. There were projectors in the $3,000 range and above, then we read about this one. The reviews were very positive, and the price just above $1,000 was right, so we took a chance and bought it. BEST purchase in a long time! The picture in our theater room is so much brighter, even with all the lights on! The images are crisp and the dark night time scenes are clearly visible. This is an excellent projector. The set up was very simple as well, and we are not techy people. I would recommend this projector to anyone looking for a quality home theater experience at a decent price!

So no perfect world theatre here
My wife was upset I upgraded and spent so much on this projector... That is until she saw the picture. This projector blows my 2k$ Sony BXR Bravia LCD out of the water. No special screen... Actually a free motorized screen off a job site prob 10yrs old... It is paired with a Yamaha Avantage 2060 receiver and a cheap 20$ Sony blue ray player... Just for reference. My basement is well lit and has plenty of ambient light from 3 windows behind the screen and a sliding glass door about 12 away in the front... So no perfect world theatre here... The picture still is amazing. No worries with this projector. I also used the Peerless PRG-UNV-W to mount which is solid and easy to install. This mount is exceptional for DIY'ers, it has precise adjustments so even if your mounting isn't perfectly aligned you can very easily get the perfect picture lined up with your screen.... Great for the money.. Hope this helps someone... Enjoy.

The Epson 3100 Home Cinema projector was to replace my 9 year old old Epson 6500UB projector. Comparing the two, the output of the 3100 is quite bright. This results in a very good and view-able image even with some ambient light in the room. Essentially, you do *not* need a completely dark Theater Room to enjoy, as the output is quite strong. In comparing the two, however, I found that I could optimize the settings on my old unit and obtain a picture which was discernibly close to that of the new 3100. The 6500UB was quite inferior when running in "Theatre" mode but when changed to "Living Room" mode was nearly equal in brightness. The tradeoff is that the fan kicks up to higher speed, but if Brighness Control is changed from Hi to Low, the fan returns to normal. When viewing each unit back-to-back the 3100 was slightly better. Without such back-to-back comparison the old 6500UB still impresses. While I admit the 3100 has a stronger output it was difficult to justify the $1000 expenditure to upgrade, so it will be returned. With the new LED units coming to market its only a matter of time until Epson develops an LED unit that is comparable to the 3100. At that time I will upgrade.

Great projector for a bright room
We got this projector on sale for $899. At that price point it's probably the best value projector you can buy. Brightness is great. Our living room has a lot of windows and a window behind the screen. While not ideal, we have no problems using this projector during the day. The only time we can't use it is when the screen is backlit by the window. The picture quality is amazing. We are projecting onto a screen that's 92" wide and have no complaints at all with the quality. Can't believe we've been missing out on the projector game for so long!Overall I would highly recommend this to the average consumer who isn't looking to set up a home theater but wants something a little nicer with good picture quality.

great projector, even better than expected.
set this up a couple weeks ago in my basement/home theater. projecting from about 19 feet onto a 120" screen and it is spectacular. have it on a shelf about 6.5 feet off the ground. occasionally, the focus will shift between viewings, but very easy to get back to sharp. also very easy to get this projected onto the screen properly, all the adjustments are intuitive and easy to use. also, i have it on eco mode and it is BRIGHT! can watch with sunlight coming through all the basement windows, and even think this would work in a living room, provided you don't have a wall of windows on a bright day. very happy with the purchase. in the dark, it's almost perfect. just watched moana this past weekend and it was stunning - better picture than the movie theater.

One of the best at this price
The images look very high-quality and sharp. I think it would easily compete with 4k projectors and if you're looking for more of a theater feeling then this is even better than 4k projectors. The vertical shift is very extensive and horizontal shift is very handy (although it's not as extensive as the vertical shift) if you don't want to mount it and just want to put it next to your bed. So overall the flexibility in placements and the image quality makes it a great choice. The only downside could be that it's larger and heavier than most of the other projectors but if you don't plan to take it wherever you go, then it shouldn't be a concern.

works perfectly!
My Epson Home Cinema 3100 (same model as this one) recently broke the blue lens inside, and could not be repaired. this one worked perfectly out of the box!
