Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity

We came across a copy of this book at an Airbnb in Istanbul, and wanted our own. Although this printing seems smaller than the other copy and lacks the fancy hard cover/box that one had, it’s a good buy at the price—many such books cost $100 or more. At any rate, it’s a beautiful book with fabulous pictures of both various pieces of Islamic art, and the Cartier products inspired by them.

If you love jewelry you will enjoy the photos of Cartier. The story of the family business and where they received inspiration for their pieces is unbelievable. Oh to be rich

The author and photographer did a beautiful job of telling the story of Cartier the family and the company as well as mixing in some of their inspiration. The only thing I wish there had been MORE of was the original reference material-photos of the places in the Middle East that inspired special designs, etc. Overall, a well done retrospective!

Fantasia pictures, great writing and great paper.A true treasure

No information of how jewelry was made. Illustration information font is minuscule. Book matches up jewelry and objects with illustrations of Islamic design and gives no other information. Coffee table book

Could have been stellar with glossy photos, but matte doesn't do the jewels justice. Disappointing.
