Awesome series!!
I am totally cheating in writing this review. I started reading the first book in the series, Fury, as a free download on Amazon and, though it looked intriguing, it sat for a while since I always have a huge list of books to read. I'm not sure what made me read it... I think I saw a rave review from one of my friends on Goodreads. Anyway, I started it, and I could not put it down. I found myself reading it everywhere... at stoplights, the dinner table, even in the bathroom! (I know... TMI.) Luckily, I have the Kindle app for my phone... Hee hee!To prove how awesome I think this series is, I come to the cheating part... I'm writing this review AFTER I've finished all 8 available books in the series. I was fortunate enough to get a very generous Amazon gift card from my hubby for my birthday in September. Good thing, cuz I spent it all on the 'New Species' books. One right after the other... just... bang! bang! bang! The 9th one comes out on October 30th. Good thing the hubby gave me another gift card for Sweetest Day. Hee hee!! Does he love me, or what?I've even joined the Laurann Dohner group on Goodreads and am contemplating emailing her with some ideas I have for future books. (I hope she doesn't mind.) :o)The premise of the series, is that a major medical group, Mercile, was experimenting on human babies by injecting them with animal DNA. Their purpose was to develop drugs that would make humans stronger and heal faster. Of course, greed got in the way, and they started to experiment with the 'subjects' for military purposes and other money-making reasons. After all the torture these poor people suffered, proof of these experiments was finally smuggled out and exposed to the public. The public was horrified, especially after finding out that the government had funded a lot of their research, and the facilities were raided, setting the test subjects free. After their release, the government gave them a newly-built military base to live on so they would be sheltered from humans, who they now hate, associating them with pain and captivity.Calling themselves, New Species, the released victims nominate a leader and began to build lives for themselves. There's a lot of material for story plots; hate groups, prejudice, physical differences, rebellion, betrayal, plus, there is an extensive list of characters, each with their own, unique persona and charm. Some are wilder, as their animal DNA is more prominent, and some are naturally easier-going with more human qualities. The majority are males, but there are a small percentage of females. So far, all of the books center around New Species males pairing with human females, but I'm hopeful for the opposite, as well as a New Species pair. :o)I admit, I was a little daunted at first. I mean, falling in love with a guy mixed with dog DNA? I don't care how hot the guy is, that is just... Ewwwwww!!! But the stories are just so damn original and good, that it drew me right in. In my mind, I replaced 'dog' with 'wolf' and suddenly, 'canine DNA' didn't seem so gross. LOL!! Why is that? Werewolves are smokin', right? Now, all the heroes aren't mixed with canine DNA. Some are mixed with feline DNA, such as lions, panthers, leopards, tigers... you get the idea. These guys are seriously fine. If you like your books to have dominant male leads, these are definitely for you. There's even a small populace mixed with primate DNA.Obviously, if you've made it this far in my review, you've realized that I whole-heartedly recommend these books. I really don't think you'd be disappointed. They're original and engulfing, and the characters are intriguing and very likable. The best part? The sexy times are bone-meltingly hot... just sayin'.Best wishes for happy reading!

Very good addition to the series :D
4 starsThis was a very good story. I really enjoyed Trisha and Slade. Trisha is great and Slade is cool once he gets things straight. I'm really liking this series!Trisha is a doctor. She first met the New Species (NS) when she worked at a regular hospital. A NS male (who ends up being Slade) is brought in after the labs were raided and the NS captives released. When Trisha goes in to his room to check on him he almost seduces her before she's saved by the other doctors and nurses. She never forgot Slade though and when she found out the NS were looking for a doctor she applied for the job. Unfortunately, when she meets Slade again he doesn't even recognize her.Slade is a NS and third in command of the NSO (New Species Organization). He's a good guy but tends to stick his foot in his mouth when it comes to Trisha. When they first meet he doesn't realize who she is and acts like a jerk. Once he realizes that she's the woman he's been longing for, he doesn't learn his lesson and start trying to win her over...instead, he starts avoiding her except when he can't and then he tends to still act like a jerk. Fortunately, Slade gets past this eventually (unfortunately, it doesn't happen immediately). The NSO has 2 locations, Homeland and a new site, called the Reserve, that's just being opened (this one further in the wilderness to keep the NS people safer from humanity that wants to harm them). Justice and a number of others (Trisha and Slade included) are travelling there for a meeting when trouble arises. Slade and Trisha find themselves thrust together in a dangerous situation and the attraction between them explodes. Things heat up between them and Slade claims Trisha as his. Unfortunately, once the danger is over, Slade is convinced that being with him will just make things more dangerous for Trisha so he stays away, much to her dismay. After a few weeks, Trisha becomes aware of something that causes much excitement but also fear in the NS community. This puts Trisha in to major danger and they decide she's to be moved to the Reserve because it'll be safer for her. Slade has been working at the Reserve, supervising the construction crews and such as they try to complete the site. When Trisha is sent out there, Slade doesn't handle seeing her well and has trouble staying away from her. In typical Slade mode, he sticks his foot in his mouth where Trisha is concerned and makes things worse before they get better. He does manage to pull his foot out though and eventually Slade and Trisha work things out. There are some additional dangers that Trisha needs protected from and things get hairy but things turn out ok (for the time being at least) and Slade and Trisha get their HEA.This was a very good story. I really liked Trisha and I liked Slade too (once he past his reoccurring bouts of relationship stupidity). This story was very engaging and made me want more so I'm continuing on to book #3 (Valiant's book!) immediately. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up! :)*note - I listened to the audiobook version of this and the narrator did a pretty good job.

Good
Tricia and SladeTricia met the New Species male Slade, long before he had a name. A year later, she meets him again while working at Homeland. It’s not long before Tricia becomes a target for the hate groups out there, and she and Slade have to struggle to survive! These books are enjoyable sci-fi romance tales. The New Species are big, protective, and very dominant, while their heroines are usually smart, sassy, and scrappy. They’re enjoyable romances, with lots of thrills and action, adventure and sexy times- good escapist fiction for those who love their PNR/SFR following the mad scientist experiments!A terrific series to read, you’ll easily find yourself hooked.

Addictive!
The chemistry between Slade and Trisha is sizzling from the moment the meet, where he tries to pin her down in his hospital bed. After an impromptu adventure in a forest, after they are attacked by extremists, they finally get together but then Slade feels he has to stay away, to protect her. Unbeknownst to him, she is pregnant and needs him more than ever. Both characters and feisty and snarky, so the dialogue between them is a lot of fun. It’s important to be aware that this is not your average shifter romance, but instead involves a community who were created in a lab by splicing animal and human dna. They don’t shift but do have animal characteristics. Also, it’s far more enjoyable to start with book one and read the series in order.
