A Year at the Chateau

I am a big fan of the tv show Escape to the Chateau, so I already knew what to expect. Dick and Angel Strawbridge go into even more depth on their first year in the Chateau de la Motte-Husson, which they bought in pretty rough condition, and renovated on a budget. The book is as delightful as the show, and I really enjoyed it. Dick and Angel take turns describing their experiences in the first year, so we get both of their perspectives. Angel approaches it as a creative, artistic person, and Dick approaches it as an Engineer. Together they make a great pair, both in life and in renovating castles.Anyone who enjoys home renovation will enjoy this book, and the tv series.I received a free digital copy of this book via Netgalley. I recommend this book, particularly if you enjoy their television reality show. Good behind the scenes information. A few interesting recipes, too.

I have been watching the show on PBS and really enjoy it a lot. When I saw the book was available, I immediately bought one for myself and my friend, who also loves the show. I am certainly enjoying it!

I have watched this family since their show first aired, over 10 years ago. This book is another glimpse into life at the Chateau. It is such a joy to feel a part of this precious family's journey!

I am a fan of the show Escape to the Chateau. I purchased this book figuring that the magic of the chateau would translate to text. Well, it does. I love how Angel and Dick write together. The reader gets two versions of the same story. I enjoyed the way the text was like Angel and Dick just talking to you and telling you about their first year at the chateau. If you are as enchanted as I was by the television show and the astral ridge family, you will enjoy this book.

A Year at the Chateau by Dick and Angel Strawbridge is a wonderful read. I don’t even think you have to be a follower of the show, which I am, to enjoy it. The show simply inspires me, as does the book. It takes one out of daily life—laundry, work, etc.—into someone else’s daily life of bringing back to life in a wonderful eclectic sense a chateau! Their drudgery—a period of hordes of flies, lack of plumbing and on—is so interesting as they right the problems. The beauty they find, an overgrown garden or an attic full of treasures, say, directs me to embrace and even curate such pieces in my own life.

Love reading this at the same time as watching series one on tv.It gives so much more insight into what you are seeing.

Loved reading this book. Always loved behind the scenes on TV shows.You can hear the voices as you read. This always makes good reading.Well written and good to hear the other side of the show. Life's not always easy.

Live it watched the tv series

This book is a must read for anyone who is a fan of Escape to the Chateau or anyone who is looking to make their own Chateau dream a reality.I love how it's written from the point of view of both Angel & Dick, you get an almost diary like account of each time period and milestone.It's fascinating to get a behind the scenes look into life restoring an old Chateau, more detail and insight then even the show.Just wonderful a very fun read.
