Haimer - 80.960.00.IN HAIMER Mini 3D Sensor - Inch Version

This is the version that arrived even though It states inch not a big deal entirely since as well as what I'm checking can get dialed in to zero makes no difference. Maybe there isn't any Inch version of it. Another Thing is that it doesn't come with a case to store it, Considering how expensive it is. It arrives in a Styrofoam Box. I had to make my own case for it. Fits in a small box I had laying around which works perfectly. Another thing Is that the bent probe arm is sold separately doesn't come with it. it's an extra 90 dollar if you want to get it. I think the bent probe arm works best considering the application I'm using it for. It's truly Miles better then a small test indicator I was used to using. Last time to note is that you have to press load the arm before placing it onto the shaft, hole, or wtv application you are using it for because you will not be able to get it close enough by pressing it onto the part you'll end up running out of room on the indicator and then it won't be touching the part anymore.

Gets you to zero on the spindle a lot easier than other edge finders. 3/4" shank is also very nice (not metric). Used this to true up my vise to the spindle and then check tram with said (new) vise. MUCH easier/faster than using the 'traditional' dual gauge tramming units. I can now set this to a value (or a 0) and run it across the vise to check. No more checking the same reference point on the item (for the dual gauge units) and hoping that you have things dialed in properly. Set the value at one end and run it across. Same for checking other axis of the vise to spindle. Makes setup easier/faster without needing to figure out the edge finder to spindle center values. Also removes any potential errors in interpreting when you need to apply the offset. Highly recommend for anyone with a milling machine that wants to make their setup process either easier or faster (or both).

There is a set screw in the shaft that is tightened a little too much by the factory. When you loosen it, you can take the runout out per the instructions. This edge finder + your DRO allow you to measure stuff in ways that was not previously possible. It's pricey, but man, it's worth it if you can swing the cost. Very happy with purchase. Would recommend.

This is very high quality tool. Built very well. Designed very rugged. So far it has saved me many hours of setup time from screwing with edge finders etc.. I highly recommend this for any milling machine. I have just the standard short probe. And so far this has been perfect. I can see where some setups may benefit from the long probe but it's a easy add on later. The only thing I wish it had was a high quality case to store it in my tool box. But that's no reason to not purchase this tool. It's worth every penny of $400

Beats the crap out of a wobbler. I love I dont need to run the spindle to get my edges.

This is one of the most expensive single items I've bought for my mill, but it was absolutely worth it. This and the tool touch off have saved me hours of time in getting my tools and work-piece setup. The one tool does x,y, and z registration, and you don't have to worry about forgetting to compensate for the offset from a regular edge finder (which used to stress me out). Now I can quickly dial my tool heights in without the need for a paper shim and the height setting is always perfect. In retrospect I should have gotten the one that comes attached to a CAT 40 tool holder because I have a collet tool holder dedicated to just this anyway, but I am very happy.

Calibrating the probe tip was pretty tedious and it took a while to get a good handle on it, but once you get a feel for it things go much faster. It actually is very accurate. The only thing I can complain about is poor documentation. There is a screw inside the shank that provides friction for the alignment mechanism which is not mentioned in the documentation. As shipped it was so tight that alignment was impossible. After loosening it alignment went fine. WHY DIDN'T HAIMER MENTION THIS? I wasted 2 hours figuring this out, and I'm sure I would have damaged it it I hadn't figured that out.

Excellent tool for mills without a probe. It essentially does everything a probe does except manually. It's well built and though the instructions are decent I did find that calibrating / adjusting it was a pain until I got the hang of it. That said it doesn't seem to need adjusting often. Readings are very precise and repeatable. I would absolutely consider this a must have for any mill without a probe.

Great unit, super accurate and built like a swiss watch. The next best thing compared to an industrial probe when it comes to time saving. Take your time when you handle it and make sure you don't crash it in the Z.

Use it over an edge finder for more accurate setups, super handy tool.

Worth every penny. I procrastinated for a long time as I have plenty of other measuring tools. However the first time I used it I knew right away that it was going to be my go to tool from now on
