I have zero complaints with these cutting boards!Please, disregard any negative reviews about the cutting board being soft. That is exactly why you buy hinoki cutting boards! It is soft wood which will help preserve the high end knife edges (especially Japanese knives).These boards appear to be of great quality and rival my much more expensive large cutting board I already had. I purchased the small from here and was impressed, so I immediately turned around and bought the medium to fill the gap.If I didn't already have my large board, I would gladly hop on UHEIM's large for $50. To give a comparison, my large is 20" x 12" x 1" and it was double the price that UHEIM's is (granted the UHEIM one is 17.5" x 9.5" x 1").If you treat Hinoki cutting boards right - from the start - they'll treat you well. When you first get it, give it a gentle cleaning in the sink (warm water w/ mild detergent), rinse thoroughly. Then after it is dry, oil it thoroughly until you can see the wood has been fully saturated. Cleaning and maintaining after that is super easy. Soap & warm water after meats. Thorough rinse after fruit / veggies. Let air dry in a rack and you won't have any issues. Hinoki boards have a natural anti-microbial aspect to them.

I purchased this as it seemed like a good price for cypress hinoki wood.It is definitely a soft wood and if you are cutting really hard, you will cut into the wood board.However, I think this is OK since we are trying to save the knife blade and I am using Global knives.This is primarily used to cut fruits on, so it could stain if certain fruits are left sitting on the board.Lastly, on one side of the board near the middle, you can see that the wood has cracked.I hope it doesn't get bigger, but that was kind of disappointing to see appear soo quick.Picture 1: area where knife cut into boardPicture 2: short edge crack that appearedPicture 3: overall front of board

It is a soft wood so it has some knife marks after a month or two but surprisingly less than expected. I loved the initial smell of the wood, but it does fade and some food smells stays. We use onion, green onions, etc on the cutting board.

It doesn't look like the picture and that's ok. The smell is very good. The fact it's one piece is great. It's very soft and what else can I say? I like it!

This is terrible quality. The wood is very soft. This picture is from two cuts on the wood. The serrated knife left indents in the wood from barely cutting on it and then little splinters of wood came up. Not sure I want splinters of wood in my food. I never write reviews on Amazon but this was so disappointing that I didn’t want anyone else to waste their money

I just received this today, so it's first impressions.I wanted a solid chunk of wood for a cutting board, to replace the bamboo one I had. The bamboo one was fine but who knows what is in the adhesive and it's made in China.This new one is very nice and made in S. Korea. I got the medium size. It's one solid piece of wood. It looks really nice and even smells good. It's thicker than most, and I like that. It's nicely smoothed, and beveled on the edges.

I was looking for a small and light cutting board since I have a big and heavy one that is too large sometimes. This is just perfect for cutting apple, onions, some vegetables only. Highly recommended.

Product arrived as a well cut single piece of wood (no seams) that should last a long time. Quality seems good. Product is also a product of South Korea as there is zero English on the package and only Korean.

Arrived well packed and presented. A faultless single piece of hanoki. Very well finished for what is after all a piece of wood. I was put off by other brands of this board due to the fact that they were glued sections of wood. Resin (in the glue) and high end knives don't mix in my opinion. Thus this purchase.Also the thickness is worth mentioning,much more substantial than most other brands, about twice as thick in some cases, should prevent warping as a result. Over all very pleased with this purchase.

The chopping board has a very strong woody smell and it renders the chopping board unusable as everything you chop over it has the same unappetizing smell.
