Q: How is this on a timer? I only have an on and off choice!

The “on” position is the timer. Turn the sign on at the time you want it to come on each day. Then it will automatically shut off after six hours and come on again on its own at the time you originally turned it on.

Q: i am confused about dimensions: is it 12.5 x 12.5 in each direction?

the whole thing is 12.5. it is a very good size. i still use it.
