The Magykal Papers: 01 (Septimus Heap)

Good Quality Book
The finish to this book is lovely with full colour. There is no point in buying this though if you haven't read some of the Septimus Heap series as it is a companion to the books. It gives the history of the world occupied by Septimum Heap and includes the private diaries and journals of some of the Septimus Heap characters. It is not a story book, more of a fictional reference book. It gives information on the characters that you cannot find out from reading the Septimum Heap series. Recommend for ages 8 upwards.

An accompaniment to the Septimus Heap stories
Arrived promptly and well packed. Am already reading the 2nd story in the series so will wait until that is finished before I read this one thoroughly although I have had a quick peep into it.Once I have finished all the books in the series I shall be passing them on to my daughter and then subsequently to her children.I got hooked when I picked up the first book, Magyk, at a charity shop and now I cannot put them down!

A must for any serious fan of the Septimus Heap series
This is a wonderful addition to the series, packed with info about the castle and its inhabitants. The full history of many of the traditions are included, as are some of the personal diaries for the lead characters. The humour and attention to detail is spot on!

NOt as good as her story books but still not a bad read
I read a lot and have recently finished reading the seven books in the series of Septimas Heap so when I saw this book I thought it would be just as good and so bought it.Whilst I love the querkiness of the book, I was disappointed with some of the drawings. Don't get me wrong, they all all very very good: however, they are not discriptive of what the book counter up.I know that we all get our own idea of what people look like and what the houses look like, but The Heap parents are drawn far too young, and do not have the wizard green eyes that the series makes you very aware that the Wizards have. Simon Heap is drawn almost as old as his father, whilst the young Septimas Heap, as a young expendable is far to nourished and clean looking. Marcia Overstrand has shoes not as described in the book, much too short in the toes, not at all as described I the books.I think this book is ok, but not as good as her story books by a long way.

Perfect accompaniment to the book series.
Perfect accompaniment to the book series. Fills in a few gaps in addition to the bits you get at the end of each story. Illustrations are just beautiful - both author and artist are very talented.

The Magykal Papers
An excellent supplement to the Septimus Heap series, it explains a lot of the characters traits, and why they are as they are.Angie Sage has managed to equal J K Rowling and create a very absorbing land of magykal beauty and intrigue which children of all ages (I am retired) can enjoy.

My teenage son wasn't too interested with this book at all, considering that he had the other books. surprising....

A must for Heap fans.
This book is great for all that extra information and backs up the series well. We enjoyed looking at the illustrations to see how alike they were to the ones we had imagined in our mind. Another good way to keep boys reading!

DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSION
This book itself is as well written and amusingly charming as the rest of the series. It has no real story of it's own but includes several journals that expand upon the characters feelings and reactions to events that happen in the series. The little pamphlets written by Silas and the restaurant reviews are cute to read, and the history of the Castle makes for useful background information. All in all I would be happy to say it was a good book, had I bought a physical copy. But as I stated in the headerDO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSIONIt is very annoying to read on the kindle. The individual sections, that have no connection to each other and would have merited a page break in a written copy, merge with less than a paragraph break and no headers to indicate the change.I don't have the printed book, so I can't speak on it's editing, but the Kindle version is a mess. There are constant spelling errors (or auto corrects that make no sense) The section that suffers most from this is Marcia's journal. The best example:"Woke late a er ano er Dungeon Number One nightmare"While it's easy to figure out - it would have been just as easy for someone to fix it.Also some of the pictures and maps did not translate well to the kindle. They are tiny little things crammed into less than 1/4 of the screen and impossible to make out. I have several other books on my kindle that include maps and pictures that have been properly sized to be visible on the screen, so again this seems to be the fault of poor editing. It took me just over an hour to read, I find it irritating that someone couldn't have spent the same amount of time checking it for errors. If you love Angie Sage's Septimus Heap series I suggest picking this book up, but do yourself a favor and avoid the Kindle version. My rating would have been higher if it had been easier to read on the Kindle.

Fun follow up to the series
This is one of the best series I have ever read. This book is a fun way to keep the characters alive after book seven and a tool to know them better while reading. Suitable for the young and not so young reader the characters are loveable and real, the girls are as diverse in personality as the boys and dragons. =) This is just a really awesome story told by a master story teller. I highly recommend to everyone.

great!

Enjoyable
It's nice to read about little details and learn new things that you might not have even noticed while reading the books. I got the hard cover and I removed the paper cover and found the hard cover to be much nicer than the paper. Also this takes place between book 4 and book 5, but you don't have to read it in between. I read it after book 6 and only a few facts had changed, but no spoilers ^_^

Excellent book
My grandson hates to read but he picked out this book and fell in love with the characters. He asked for the whole series and his Papa obliged him. Can't wait till he comes back next summer to read the next book in the series. He even read the with me even though I would read 4 pages to his one.
