Secret Wars [Hickman, Jonathan, Ribic, Esad] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Secret Wars Review: A surprisingly rewarding end to my favorite universe - I knew this would be a must read for me, to witness the end of the universe I'd come to know and love, and see how it would start anew. But I didn't know that I would love every minute of the read! I expected epic collisions, huge battles, and a ominous, but empty plot on the way to the reboot. But I was surprised to find a character rich, plot driven, phsycological, ethereal, and rewarding story. The action was as promised, and the art was fantastic throughout, but as I read, I found myself entrapped in a deep story that begged to be read. The plot gave justice to the long history of the Marvel universe, with cameos and references throughout, but it wasn't cheap, and it wasn't a gimmick. It was a plot that could only be fully explored and keep you on the edge if your seat with a knot in your stomach by the universes being destroyed with no magic undo at the end. The consequences were real and lasting, which lent credence to the epic proportions. The build of the plot didn't feel rushed or forced as I had expected, but it felt properly paced to ease you through each transition and the realization that you'll never see this vast universe the same way again. Though the 'resolution' into the 'prime earth' of the new Marvel universe closed to quickly for my taste, the whole volume was a rewarding and exciting read. A must read for any Marvel fan from any era. Review: Great as the original - The storyline was very well written. It was something different than others that had used the Secret Wars title after even the sequel did. Nice tie ins for many other stories as well

A surprisingly rewarding end to my favorite universe

I just got into Marvel Comics recently and decided to pick this up to see what happened prior to the All New All Different stuff. Now, while this is not needed to get into Marvel's current line, it's definitely worth a read and doesn't absolutely require all of the lead up from the Avengers and Fantastic Four series' (though I am looking forward to filling in that gap with the Avengers: Time Runs Out collection coming out soon). The book itself is great, I had a lot of fun watching the events unfold. The word "epic" gets thrown around a lot, but it perfectly describes what happens in Secret Wars. On top of an absolutely crazy story, the great art and strong characterization really stand out. It's also really cool to see these characters in a situation so far outside the status quo. There are a few big characters missing from the Secret Wars roster, but you won't wind up missing them with all that's happening. I highly recommend this to the more super hero minded comic fans out there.

Behold… Battleworld!
Great story! Maybe some spoilers for Marvel phase 4….? Maybe?! Artwork is great! The story is told in somewhat of a non-linear fashion and I read a few reviews complaining about the book being confusing. It is a longer book and it jumps around a bit for backstory and context. Overall I found it enjoyable and fast reading. 4 stars for a little bit of a lack of action. Also, the page art goes far enough into the center that you’ll find yourself creasing the binding to see the full pages. Obviously that is to be expected with large novels. Read it!

Pick the paperback over the hardcover
If you want a physical edition rather than a Kindle edition (as a comic reader for 30+ years I still prefer reading comics printed on paper), I recommend the paperback version. The paperback copy I purchased was in excellent condition. The binding was firm, no loose pages or cracks in the spine. The paper was glossy and high quality. When reading I was never distracted by any physical flaws. My one complaint is that the map of Battleworld is printed in middle of the volume so some of it is lost in the binding, but that didn't affect my ability to enjoy the story. Supplemental material included a gallery of all the variant covers (and there were lots for this series). They also included the Free Comic Book Day Secret Wars #0 at the end, despite the fact that its story is more of a prelude than a postlude. As far as I can tell the hardcover doesn't have any other special bonuses. This is not a situation where the publisher cut corners producing the paperback, but the hardcover is the "prestige" version. The hardback doesn't give you any more material or any better reading experience, but it costs more. Concerning the story told in this volume, I would call it a satisfying bow to the long story Hickman told through various Marvel titles. I cannot say how much you would enjoy it without reading his Fantastic Four or Avengers books before. Having read them this felt like a brilliant capstone on a monumental work. Esad Ribic's art has a touch of high fantasy to gives this story that epic quality. Ive Svorcina deserves mention for his color work which deeply enhances every page. Even among the universe of Marvel stories, this felt special, like a myth superheroes would tell. I loved it!

Great art work
This is a great way to get caught up on the Secret Wars story. Not as good as the 1984 Secret Wars but good none the less. Great copy and all the comics are in one book. I would recommend to any comic book fan.

Really enjoyed it
I enjoyed Secret Wars. Wanted to read it prior to Doomsday coming out so I had a little bit of an idea of what's coming. I hope the movie is close to that

Excelente cómic con arte de Isad Ribic, recomendado tanto por la historia como por el dibujante. Cinco estrellas.

Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars is a visual triumph. Esad Ribić’s cinematic direction and sprawling panel layouts create an operatic scale, while Ive Svorcina’s ethereal coloring adds immense depth. The story is a masterful culmination of multiversal collapse, blending high-concept sci-fi with intimate character stakes. It is a grand, high-stakes finale that redefined the boundaries of the Marvel Universe.

I haven't finished it yet but it's so cool to see the different variants of some of the heroes and Battleworld. I definitely recommended getting this comic.

I've not finished it yet but so far it's good. I just really dont like the art at all, other than that the story is amazing so far.
