Building Champions: A Small-Group Counseling Curriculum for Boys

This group plan was a savior for a handful of 3rd grade boys this year. Although they topped the charts for discipline in their classroom when it began, they absolutely loved coming to my office for group. They participated, and enjoyed the activities. By the end of group their discipline referrals have completely stopped. While there were some other variables that changed in their classroom, I truly believe this group was the seed that allowed the relationship with their teacher to bloom. They began showing respect for their teacher and peers, and have really blossomed overall to be champions :) I am very grateful for the group plan myself as it was easy to follow, and did not require a lot of planning time which I simply do not have. I made some copies before each group, and was ready to go. Even the administration has loved hearing about Building Champions!

Love this book! I have not used it with my small group of boys yet but when reading it I got so excited. Everything is there. I don’t have to think of creative ideas to send them back to class with because the book does it for me!

I am a 7th grade school counselor and this book has been really helpful to use for my boys’ group. Some of the activities require materials I don’t have on hand, but I can usually improvise and different solution. Great activities/discussions for middle school boys!

This is a great book for busy counselors! I loved that I could do the group and eight weeks or less and that all the forms were already written. Fortunately I had a staff person translate the permission slip to Spanish for me that’s the only thing was missing but not everybody has the Spanish-speaking student population. This author also has a book targeted for girls.

I order Amazon for a public school district. This must be okay to recommend b/c I didn't hear any complaints (and believe me I would have.)

Excellent ideas for group.

Building Champions is great! I am half way through the group counseling and the boys have really enjoyed it because it is sport themed.

I can't wait to use Carol's book this school year!

Program is ok. Not something I'll use in full, I don't think. Most chapters have 3 options, which looks confusing and seems like the author couldn’t edit out the weaker ideas. Not particularly interesting, and the sports theme is weak.
