What type of wood is best to grown them in and should I prop the log up somehow? What’s an ideal configuration?

Chicken of the woods is a hard mushroom to grow and definitely needs some special considerations. One way to do it is the pasteurization/sterilization method outlined on the product page and plug pamphlet on our website: https://northspore.com/collections/plug-spawn/products/chicken-of-the-woods-plug-spawn

Another way to increase success is likely just a super high spawn rate. So, I'd probably put all these plugs into one log. You would colonize a log like this just as you would a shiitake log, but for fruiting you would want to at least partially bury the log (a trench is good). https://northspore.com/pages/grow-mushrooms-on-logs-videos
