Wow...read it in 1 night
The book is a great read. Shocking, but well written. I look forward to reading their other books.

Unsettling and creepy
This novel makes me want to read more Japanese horror. The protagonist might not come across as proactive as some readers would like (neither was the narrator in Rebecca), but she felt real to me, plus there are special circumstances...With all the descriptions of perspiration, I had to investigate. Tokyo really is humid in the summer.I do think granny -- a fabulous character -- should have been able to brew up a cure for constipation.

A Japanese gothic
I have found a true Japanese gothic and I am head over heels in love! It is a story of paranoia and the fears of losing oneself after assimilating into a new family through marriage. A wonderful literary horror in the tradition of Ira Levin, Daphne du Maurier, and Shirley Jackson; Now You’re One of Us is a slow burn of a tragedy that leaves the reader hungry to know what is going on.

Wonderful book!
This is one of my new favorite books! I really enjoyed Asa Nonami's writing style, and the story felt really believable. I even told my husband to read it after I finished and he finished the book in two settings he loved it so much!If you, like me, found this book while looking for something in the horror genre, you should know this book isn't the kind that instills terror in the reader, instead it gives a sense of dread, but a fascination to find out what happens next. I would absolutely say this book is worth the read, even if it might be somewhat outside your normal genre.

In No Way Comparable to "Rebecca"
Whoever compared this to "Rebecca" should have to refund me the price of the book. The setting was somewhat interesting. The writing was simplistic, the motivations and plot unbelievable, and the denouement disgusting.

Different
Asa Nonami has a talent for building up suspense. The writing is well done, the characters are described well enough to draw you into the story so the ending has its affect on you. This is a fast paced read and I look forward to trying another of her books.

Loved this one
Loved reading how she was eventually pulled into the family even after the doubts and strange behaviors. I ordered the rest of the authors books after reading this. Finished this one in two days I just wanted to keep reading it.

Creepy Families Stick Together
This was creepy and I will never again trust a family that has 8 or more people living together. I enjoyed the writing though even if one particular scene was quite graphic.

Maybe because I have read a lot of chilling books ...
Maybe because I have read a lot of chilling books or watched a few chilling films, that I found that earlier on in the book I began to suspect what was happening. So it really wasn't surprising what the secret was. It sadly wasn't a big 'WOW' moment. But the translation is really well done. It was very gripping, full of suspense and I think it is definitely worth a second read once you know how it ends.

an addictive read!
I thought this book was a bit predictable at first, but I slowly found myself getting it and in the end I read the last 50 pages in one go. Like all good books, there's a twist in the tale. Recommended!

Interesting read
I think you have to like the oriental type of book. They have a diffrent 'feel' to the writing and the subject. I really like a lot of the Chinese/Japanese author books I have read and feel I am learning about a culture too. This book has a very interesting if not different, subject and there is an interesting twist at the end!

leading nowhere
This is a book that starts well, and generally leaves you with a feeling of unease. However, it finally reaches the final section and it is as if the author didn't know how to finish it. The creepy atmosphere created early on is let down by a simplistic and unconvincing finish, which neither shocks or brings the story to an end. The ending is far too neat and conservative, to say nothing of brief, for what might have been a thought-provocing and disturbing conclusion.A dissapointment. KG
