Ginseng has been regarded as the king of medicines for the past two thousand years. The genus name Panax derives from "panacea", the ancient Greek word for "cure all". American ginseng originates from the deciduous forests of North America. Its similarity to Korean ginseng was soon recognized and it is now rated as highly as its Asian cousin.
