I have a 2018 made in mexico roadworn tele. will i have to enlarge any holes or replace knobs?

We don't think so. We sold Road Worn Strats and Teles through 2013 - we've hotrodded many of them. But we have no hands-on experience with Road Worn guitars newer than 2013 or so. Back then there was no need for any changes, the hole sizes were right, and the knobs and switch tips fit. We'd be surprised if that's changed.

Question 2

I'm building a tele and was curious if these would work with some humbuckers from amazon?

Yes, this kit will work, but will not allow the humbuckers to be split. You'll have three positions as follows:

Position 3: Neck HB
Position 2: Bridge + Neck HB
Position 1: Bridge HB

If the humbuckers you buy have 4-conductor leads, then you have the option to split them for more tonal versatility. We have a kit that comes with a 5-way switch rather than 3-way, and the positions are as follows:

Position 5: Neck HB
Position 4: Neck SC
Position 3: Bridge HB + Neck HB
Position 2: Bridge SC + Neck SC
Position 1: Bridge HB

Question 3

I have a Samick "Telecaster". looks just like every other modern Tele with the exception of the headstock. Would this be a good kit for me?

Sure, any of our kits should work well in that guitar. However, you might need to enlarge the control holes, since your guitar's original parts most likely have metric threads. The holes for the pots and jack will need to be 3/8" diameter, and you might also need to slightly enlarge the two holes for the switch screws, which are UTS 6-32 (nominal diameter .138"). Thanks!

Would the use of a neck humbucker and single coil bridge pickup require a different value pot?

Accepted Answer

This is the dilemma when combining single coils and humbuckers. Fender has actually used 375k pots in similar guitars to sort of split the difference, but this is not optimal. The best way to do it would be to use a 500k pot, then in the 1 & 2 positions (bridge, and bridge/neck) - or, in just the 1 position - bring a resistor into the circuit that would drop the pot value from 500k to 250k. Of course, the pot value wouldn't actually change, but the resistive load that the circuit sees would drop. But this isn't possible with the kit you've asked about, and we don't have one available that will. It's something you'd need to piece together. Give us a call if you'd like more information.
