just a simple chain ring. it bolted in place as expected and keeps my pantleg out off the sprocket.

Does not fit
I was disappointed that the 4 holes on this guard do not line up with those of my 48-tooth Giant mountain bike. I measured carefully and bought the piece that claimed to fit, but no luck with this one. I could not return it -- the bike I bought if for is in another country -- so it's stuck on with two screws instead of four, and I'm stuck with the part. Won't last long, I predict.
