Chord Piano Is Fun

This book is a great resource for those who just want to play pop music without years of laborious work. Of course you still have to work and practice but this is more "keys for the average person". I learned to play this method on my own but I ordered the book to see if it had good ways of explaining the concepts, and it does. I use this method of teaching chord piano in our Harp and Bowl music college. It is fast, relatively easy and will get you up and playing sooner than any method I know of. There is another method book, "A Chord Approach to Piano Playing", that I just ordered recently but the method presented there is a little more intense, using walking basses and really a different system of chord inversions (mostly the 2nd). I plan to gain some things in that book but really this book has a much easier method. I play two hours straight a week using the method in "Chord Piano is Fun" and simplicity is a must since I must run a soundboard and direct a choir while playing and singing, so for me this is the only way to go. What I do a little differently than this book is that I don't really use the melody line plus chord method put forth in the book, but instead I play just with chords/lyric charts and variations with melody "fills". The singers take the place of a precise melody line so, it works.

I am about half way through this book and find it enjoyable and very helpful. The explanations of chord construction are easy to understand, even for this beginning piano player with no formal music training. I expect to be able to use the book to look back to when encountering chords in future music adventures.

not as easy as i thought it would be

Written with an understanding of the beginner. I have a dozen or more piano instruction books, and this is the best. Makes what appears to be a complex subject simple. One of the first books I have bought that I feel is well worth the money.

It's a good book; but I would have loved more songs using chords

Great book covers all the basics

Finally we can learn the keys again. This was a great way to get back into playing the keys. Very easy to understand.

Disappointed you can get most of the info in this book for free off the web

Ok book

It is a must-have if you really want to know how songs work. You will look at song structures differently. The best way to learn piano is the chord-method. I highly recommend this book!
