Love this Ulu!
This is my second Ulu and I love it.I am disabled and take my Ulu with me whenever I go out to eat. (Wrapped in a paper towel inside a ziplock) I thought I'd left it in a restaurant so I ordered this as a replacement. Turned out I hadn't, but I'm so glad that happened. Now I keep my older, somewhat smaller one in my purse, and use this sharper / better one in the kitchen.I love this knife! After my stroke, I was left with only one fully functional hand and cutting food became a huge challenge. An Ulu knife makes life infinitely more normal!

Sharp yet Child-Friendly, and Good for Vegetable Mincing! Wish the Wood were Higher Quality...
One of my mom's brothers spent some time living in Alaska as a young man. He came home with a bunch of these for all of his family members, so I grew up with an Ulu knife in the kitchen. They're FANTASTIC knives, and are every bit as good at cutting up modern food as they were at carving blubber off whales. Here are the highlights (and one downside):*GOOD FOR KIDS: Ulu knives are especially good for children, since the grip keeps your hand far away from the blade while also giving you enough leverage to get a solid cut. Growing up, I used our family's Ulu to cut up my pancakes into a little grid of perfect squares. Now my family does the same thing!*GREAT WORK KNIFE: The knife is awesome for its versatility, and holds up well after prolonged use. I especially love using it to mince vegetables for soups and pico de gallo, since the rounded edge makes it the ideal tool for rocking the blade back and forth and adjusting the angle until the whole vegetable is sliced.*LOW WOOD QUALITY: While I am an unabashed fan of Ulu knives, I do wish the wood they used for this model was of higher quality. After only a short while, the wood started to kind of wear down and fray at the edges (see close-up picture of the handle). It hasn't splintered and seems to be holding steady as is, but I worry that it might not last as long as I'd like. Fortunately, the blade is holding up well. All told, I still love Ulu knives and would recommend this model as a good low-priced model. If you're looking for top quality, though, probably look for a model on the next price tier with better wood quality. Enjoy!

Could have saved a trip
I went hiking in Alaska two years ago. While shopping for souvenirs, I found the Ulu knife. I had researched them and found them to be very good, but expensive. While in Alaska I threw caution to the wind and bought one. Way more expensive than Amazon. I love it and use it all of the time. The one I ordered from Amazon is every bit as good as the one from Alaska and way less expensive. It came nicely packaged for gift giving.

Fail, black chips after two uses.
I had this on my counter (dry area) and used it twice, cleaned it perfectly each time and only cut celery. I already have black spots on the cutting edge and side, no way to contact seller/request a refund. Can't post pics!! Feel ripped off, it could have at least lasted a year! What a waste of money, wish I could get a refund - WellaX are you reading this? Please contact me!

Works As Advertised.
Seems like a pretty effective tool for the price point and you can clean the blade by running it under hot water without touching the sharp edge. This knife works by using a rocking motion; one thing you should know however is that the stand it comes with isn't a very safe way to store the blade so you might want to pick up a sheath for it- the idea of storing it on a stand could well be a safety hazard depending on your situation. Wouldn't trust it to take any severe stress or torture tests because of the type of steel it is and the way it's put together- but if will do what it's supposed to otherwise.

The block to stand it in is key
Very handy cutting implement for chopping vegs, cheese, nuts, whatever. It really does work. I got a wooden concave cutting "bowl" to go with it and I use both together daily. Note the block to stand it in: crucial. This is the one to get because of the block --- think about it, where else would you put it? NOT in a drawer, danger of getting cut. Sheaths and such could take too long. This is easy to use.

Like several knives in one.
This is a cool knife, sure, but it is almost like two or three knives in one. The chopping function is really good since it rocks rather than going up and down. The pointed ends are like a paring knife and the long curve is like a chef’s kitchen knife. But this has a realy good ergonomic advantage to it since the grip is over the top. It is like ‘chokeing up’ on a regular knife but safely since that is where the handle actually is. Everyone should have one of these things.

Eating salads and vegetables by the truckload now!
Where has this little tool been all of my salad eating life? Oh my gosh, I love it! All I have used it for thus far is chopping up salads to manageable bites. I hate big huge lettuce pieces that make it impossible to eat with any dignity. I throw my lettuce mix in a bowl, a variety of veggies and just chop and roll away. After a couple shakes to redistribute during the process, voila! Beautiful, evenly chopped up, bite sized salad. Guess what else--this is perfect for picky children! My three girls don't like chunks of things like broccoli or celery in their salad--but mince it all up and no one even notices. This thing is genius and will definitely be increasing my family's consumption of healthy salads (I'm a terrible chopper). The handle is very comfortable and this looks nice up (and back from my kids--my only concern about this storage method) on my counter.
