Houston Heights (Images of Modern America) Paperback – October 31, 2016

This was a great purchase made originally for my boyfriend and we both loved it. I appreciate a well written, historical, and detail-filled work, but he, on the other hand, would much rather view the pictures or get right to the point without his time being wasted. This is a good read for no matter who you are with its well researched and authentic photos followed by their detailed and captivating captions. We both were given a great new respect for this Houston neightborhood!

Wonderful old pictures of the place I grew up in. Many of the places I knew because I use those businesses. Growing up in the Heights was like living in the suburbs today. One picture I enjoyed was the house I was brought home to after I was born and lived in till age 5, the Hawkins house. What a treat to read. A must have if you lived in the Heights.

Being a born Houstonian, I was thrilled with this book. I wish there was one published on the Woodland Heights, where I was raised. However, this book covered all of the areas that I was familiar with and made me very nostalgic.

I just finished this book; it is easy reading. The photographs are quite interesting. Because I live in this area, it was interesting to see how the homes, churches and business looked back then. Many of the buildings/homes are still standing and are occupied so the photos in the book help to make the comparison from then to now more interesting. I appreciate my neighborhood even more, having read some of the history of it and of the people who lived here. I recommend this book if you are a local and appreciate local history. I was disappointed when I finished it; I wanted to read more about it!

Good book with historical pictures for anyone who loves that area andknows of the history.Softback issue only,hardback issue would be nice.

I attended junior and senior high in the Heights. All my school friends are from the Heights. Grandmother lived in the Heights. Liked the history and most photos but the book was not what I was hoping for at all. Not totally disappointed but not pleased with the expenditure for the resultant product.
