Good escapist stuff
3 and 1 / 2 starsAt a religious ceremony, the peaceful and lawful village in Bali is stunned when the six-year old daughter of their leader is kidnapped in front of the whole village. The three men sped away on motorbikes, one clutching Ayu. They were followed closely by Ayu’s uncles Ketut and Putu and the hero of our story, Hiram Kane. Kane was in the beautiful village relaxing after leading a trying expedition and had become fast friends with Ketut and Putu. The kidnappers got away – with the frightened Ayu in tow. When returning to the village, Putu tearfully confesses that he got in trouble with a local gang leader over a shipment of drugs that had gone awry.Simultaneously, the nearby Mount Agung was starting to shake the ground in preparation for an eruption as Kane, Putu and Ketut set out to find and rescue Ayu. The volcanologists predict that the mountain is ready to erupt at any moment. An exciting and daring rescue and escape plan is the highlight of the novel. This book is well written (if a little simplistic), and plotted. I enjoyed it. It is a hero beats all odds novel with a few twists thrown in for good measure. It is reminiscent of action/thriller-writers like James Rollins, or the old Clive Cussler books. It does not, however, have the science on which Rollins bases his books. If you like an action book and don’t mind suspending your belief system for a bit, this is a pretty good escapist read.

Ambiance, excitement, and adventure...
This book has so much going for it. The author is obviously well-travelled, and his descriptions of Bali are so evocative that you feel as if you are right there as a peripheral character tagging along and enjoying the sights as you go on this fast-paced, action-packed adventure. The descriptions of exotic locales are not the only deftly developed feature of this book, however. The characters are also carefully cultivated and thoroughly intriguing. There is a great story, plenty of action, and a satisfying resolution (I love that the tiger got her revenge). It is not a long story so you can probably read it/listen to it in one sitting if you choose. The narrator did a great job with developing distinct accents and intonations for the various characters and with reading at a pace complementary to the situation at hand. Inherent to adventure stories, there is some violence, but it is not graphic. There are instances of language that may be considered objectionable by some, but it was not excessive and, in this reviewer’s opinion, it was understandable given the situations in which the characters found themselves. Overall, I found this to be a beautifully written compelling adventure that makes me look forward to future installments in this series.I purchased a copy of this e-book but was gifted a copy of the audiobook from the author and the above is my voluntary and unbiased review.

Read the comments.
Judging by the details the author's put into this, He really knows this business. And he knows how to tell an excellent story. I hope those of you who read it have as much fun with it as I did. Good work.

Action all the way!
Once started with the book, I wanted to read it straight through. Non-stop action all the way – beginning with a motorcycle chase to the ending. The book is set in Bali where Hiram Kane is currently visiting. Anu, the leader’s young daughter, is kidnapped from the village Hiram is in. The kidnapping has nothing with her being the leader’s daughter, but does involve another family member.A bit of confusion for me, as a few references led me to believe this wasn’t the first book in the series, however the references are cleared up in the next book. Note the books do not have to be read in order.I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a fast pace adventure with having just enough details to imagine the scene.I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

On A Race To Save An Innocent
Hiram Kane has been in Bali for some weeks and suddenly finds himself in a race through the Monkey Jungle to rescue a young girl taken as a pawn in a grisly, violent clash with the region's mafia gang leader. It looks like all is lost but Hiram is not a quitter. Read to see who comes out a looser in this suspenseful action packed thriller.

Action, stupidity and heros
Hiram and his friends, Puto and Ketut were just kicking back enjoying a small place in Bali that hadn't been polluted by the growing greed of realators. One of the friends got involved with the black market, caused a child of high priest to be stolen. You will have to read the rest of the story.

Exciting action adventure
This is a brilliant story. I actually listened to it on audible, and the reader is very good. The story is set in Bali and starts almost immediately with the kidnapping of a young girl. With that Hiram is out to find her and put things right. This story will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The action doesn't let up for a second. You also "visit" some of the most famous sites in Bali, and learn a little along the way. Its a great mix up of archaeological adventure and pure action. ITs an easy read too, flowing well with interesting characters. Enjoyed every second of it and look forward to reading or listening to more of Steve's work.

Highly not recommended!
Appalling! I’ve read cereal boxes that were more exciting. Also full of mistakes, plot holes and continuity errors. It’s as if the author got bored after a couple of pages and went, eh, Whatever!Reads like a badly written holiday brochure.30% of the book is dedicated to the authors other books ( a chapter from each of about 5 from series ) there’s wishful thinking for ya!And the main character/hero, he can knock down a wall with a jumping spinning roundhouse kick! I kid you not.Supposed to be like Dirk Pitt, more Brad Pitt, if you catch my Cockney rhyming slang!Just wish I’d bought the paper version instead of kindle so I could set it on fire!Highly not recommended.

What a rollercoaster!
This book was a real surprise to me and I loved it. I expected the action thriller element, but what I didn’t expect was the additional history and description of the island of Bali.I’ve visited Bali several times and know several of the locations really well, so I was immediately immersed into the story like I was there, which made it all the more of a rollercoaster ride. Can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens next to Mr Kane and what I’m also going to learn.

I knew I would love this one and it would be full of adventure
Having read the first two books in the series, I knew I would love this one and it would be full of adventure. The book starts off brilliantly with Hiram's friend's daughter being kidnapped and Hiram and his friends chasing them on motorbikes through the jungle. From there the book doesn';t slow down with the three of them trying to get her back before something bad happens to her. It is a brilliant read, which can be read as a standalone book if you haven't read the other two yet.

Poor
I was lured in by the plot and premise of the book summary. This is one of these rare occasions when I get it wrong and chose badly. I love books and buy aplenty. I particularly like finding new-to-me authors/books but sadly this novella/book is poorly written with an unexciting plot and characters.
