Superman Son of Kal-El 1: The Truth Paperback – May 31, 2022

So I accidentally started in volume 3 and really enjoyed the series. So now I decided to go to volume 1. Great start to the series and I’m taken back by how well Jon is portrayed. I read some of the Super sons series and Superman title with him in it and thought that it was a great to have him. The story of him coming out was well done and I don’t know if it was ever hinted at all beforehand. I did hear about it because regular media made a deal out of it and I was indifferent. Reading it I feel that nothing seemed forced and that it not overly address in any way. It just one of his characteristics. Looking forward to reading more.

Love Tom Taylor's writing and this book is so much fun to read. I am looking forward to the rest of this series.

I grew up reading comic books in the late 50's through mid 70's. After college, I didn't exactly lose interest, but day job and theatre projects took up much of my time, (not to mention caring for my parents) and I mostly lost track of storylines, etc. And they seem to change a lot over the years. I was aware of THIS storyline from web articles, but there are no comic stores really near me. I recently got a Hollywood Spotlight mag at the grocery store, which focuses on the history of comics, and it peaked my interest, especially in "Superboy and Legion" stories, and wanted to see where this was going. Mostly love it, though it helped that the mag filled in a few blanks. I am amending my review to 5 stars - either I misread the Amazon page or it was amended. I have now ordered the next two volumes!

I thought this was a fun read. It was nothing extraordinary for a Superman story. I honestly only got it for the LGBT angle but the relationship didn’t feel very natural and it seemed sort of rushed. I wish they spent additional time developing the characters a little better to make them more well rounded and for their relationships to feel more natural. I do like the way media plays a big role in the story as Jon’s father was a journalist. That might be the best part of the book. I am looking forward to see where the story goes in volume two but my expectations will definitely be lower.

I love all of Tom Taylor’s work! He blew me away with this. I love the art from Tim too! I’ve collected single issues and the hardback because it deserves a spot on my book shelf too. Jon’s characterization is on point, Taylor does a great job! I was sad when Bendis made him grow up but seeing him navigate “adult hood” is a treat to see. I highly recommend it! Enjoy fellow DC fans.

I was initially unsure about this volume as I was worried that Jon's concern for the environment may dominate the story, but it is only briefly mentioned, raising the issue in the readers mind but also allowing the fantastical story set around superhuman to flourish. I enjoyed the story so much, I read all 4 volumes back to back.

The book came in nearly perfect condition and I really enjoyed reading it, looking forward to getting volume 2. Jon Kent is probably my favorite DC superhero.

I am beyond happy with this book. The writing and art are excellent and the Travis Moore covers are worth the price on their own. The handling of Jon’s coming out is sensitive and very sweet. This is the book you need to put into the hands of any youngster you think may have questions about their place in the world.But it is still a well written superhero adventure so it is a great read for almost anyone.Thanks Tom Taylor and everyone else connected with this high quality title. I can’t recommend it enough.
