Which kind of wipes will fit in the side pocket?

The changing pad is inside that . But you could totally just put the changing pad inside the diaper bag alone because there’s so many pockets and can use the wristlet bag for something else .

Is the outside of the backpack water resistant or water proof?

I believe so. I’ve spilled water on the backpack inside and out and seems to do well. But yet I also live in CA so we don’t get a lot of rain.
