Which set of the armor goes on the knees, and which goes on the hips?

The pieces that have the slits on the sides goes on the knees. The slits are there to accommodate knee bending.

I wear an m normally and can wear the l or xl in this brand, so if you are usually an xs or s, the s should work for you. The wide waistband is really forgiving. It has wide belt loops also that can help with adjusting the fit. Hopefully someone closer to your size will chime in.
