My 10 year old son is a civil war buff and is planning on dressing up as a Union soldier for Halloween. He bought a costume but thought the hat that came with it was cheap-looking, so he ordered this one for a more authentic look. It seems well made from wool felt with a nice, soft lining. It also has gilded buttons and a crossed-muskets pin on the front, lending it a more authentic flare (the cap that came with the costume had sewn-on decorations). He loves it and wears it every day. I was impressed with the quality for the price. Recommend

I got an email from Amazon asking that if my 4th hat was cotton, to let them know because they would take down the listing until they had the shipping situation sorted out. Today I got the fourth hat and it was....WOOL!! I am adding an 8th picture to this review of the WOOL kepi I finally received. THANK YOU AMAZON!! You can see how much closer it is to the original (photo 7) than the cotton ones (Photo 2 and 5-- I didn't bother taking a picture of the 3rd cotton-- they all looked the same) It just has more structure and body (but it's not stiff) I'm very happy-- I'm changing my review from 1 to 4 stars, just because all the statements I made in my review from the original hat still stand.******************************3RD COTTON hat being returned. Have bought from 3 different sellers: 3Trips, 5Stars and eClassics-- all fulfilled by Amazon. All described as WOOL hat, all cotton hats sent.*******************The first Seller, 3Trips, apologized for the cotton hat and said that Amazon fulfills their orders and there are cotton ones being sold by other sellers and the wrong one must've been sent. So, I ordered again, this time from Classics and got-- ANOTHER COTTON HAT. So it's going back again. I did report this (by clicking on the link at the top of the description) as being a bad description, and will report it a second time. My advice, you can order the hat, but if you want a nicer wool one, be ready to return it. I'm trying to decide if I should try a 3rd time. Returns are free... The first 3 photos are the 2nd hat I ordered and returned. The second 3 photos are from hat #3 that will be returned. The last photo (the 7th picture) is the original hat I bought over 2 years ago, which is wool. You can see the pin broke and was lost, but the wool has so much more body, even after DAILY use over 2 years, that the 2 cotton ones that I was sent. (You can also see what will happen to the brim after a couple years-- it's really unfortunate it's not a better material, but if you can get a wool version of this hat, it's really a nice hat for the price! The first time I bought this hat my son loved it-- he wore it everywhere and even obtained the nick name "Kepi". The hat was starting to look rough from wear, so I thought I'd get him a new one. Went to my original order, clicked order again, the description and item title are the same, still say " wool" but when it got here, I took it out of the bag and knew right away it was not the same. IT IS THIN, CHEAP COTTON. THE TAG EVEN SAYS COTTON. IT LOOKS VERY CHEAP. IT IS NOT THE SAME AS THE FIRST ONE I BOUGHT. DO NOT BUY. WOULDNT SPEND 2 BUCKS ON THIS ONE AND ITS GOING BACK!!!! So disappointed!!!! This seems to be happening more and more on Amazon. So glad they have a good return policy because obviously the seller is trying to pull something with such a blantant FALSE DESCRIPTION.†*****************************I got this for my 9 year old son and it fits perfect (so for an adult it would be a bit snug most likely) He LOVES it. It's a nice looking hat and for the price, is an okay quality. It is wool, but it's a thin wool. The pin on the front kept falling off, so I put some adhesive on it to keep it in place. (It's not really a pin-- there is no real closure-- there are these 2 pointed tabs that sort of stick into the fabric and fold over) The pin is rather thin and is punched out of flat metal (so it bends easily). I wish the brim was made of something different-- it's a cheaper patent (fake) leather, as is the strap along the brim. I could live with that, but the part that I didn't like was that the underside of the brim is green-- sort of a primary green. I really wish that would've been black.All that said-- It was really inexpensive and was about what you should expect or even better than you might expect. However, I wish they would've charged a buck or two more and beefed up the parts a bit that I mentioned (so four stars instead of 5)-- HOWEVER-- if you would've asked my son-- he would've gone a full five!

Well made but a little big for my head. Will create an insert. Appears to be good value for the money compared other hats amazon is selling.

I recently purchased this hat for local Civil War reenactments, and for the fun of having it. I was excited to receive it, but it turned out to be less than I expected. The leatherette looks manufactured, and the strap looks as if it had been taped. The buttons and pin look like plastic. The inside does not look period, and the underside of the brim has green fabric. The wool looks rather nice, in contrast.As a toy or gift for a child, I would say this is a good choice; it is inexpensive, and suitable enough for someone who's occasion does not mandate authenticity. If I was using it for a Halloween costume, I likely would have kept it. However, for a reenactor, I would not recommend this product. It does not compare to a more functional, authentic hat.

Great costume cap. The underside of the bill is bright green. I happened to have some leftover black fabric paint that I covered it with. I didn't remember the paint right away and originally colored it with a black sharpie and that did an okay job of toning down the green. Sturdy for a costume hat. My 11 year old who is obsessed with the civil war used this for a dress up day at school (all day long) and Halloween and it still is in great shape. Perfect for his Union Soldier costume. He was thrilled with it and so was I!

I love that it's wool! We are in a Civil War Re-enactment Group, and I bought this hat for that!

It is a fairly well made hat, especially for the price. Brass emblems, felt and lining was pretty good, I’m not sure how well the brim of the hat would hold up if it got wet but like I said, the price is right.

Extremely disappointed. No way these fit an adult. One came with metal insignia, one without. I had bought two caps, one for myself and my grandson. As a disabled vet, very difficult to return items. Ugh. Live and learn. Zero stars rating. But apparently I must add at least 1.
