Making Animated Whirligigs (Dover Crafts: Woodworking)

I have seen whirlygigs in movies, and occasionally the simple birds with spinning wings. I wanted to know what sort of materials were needed to make the more involved mechanical devices - such as the man sawing wood. This book did not disappoint. The author provides information on materials to use for reliable service in a device exposed to the elements. This is an excellent place to start.

Fun book Lots of great projects and super results

I retired a couple of years ago, and last year I bought a scroll saw. I also subscribed to a Scroll Saw and Woodworking magazine. I saw this book advertised in the magazine, so I bought it (and several others). There are a couple of whirligigs in here that I'm interested in making as gifts. Easy to follow instructions. I would have given it a 5 star rating if there were a few more projects to my liking in there. But I hardly ever rate anything a 5. Good book.

I haven't actually made a whirligig yet, but I plan on it. Since I read this book I really believe I can. What I wanted to know, it told me, mainly things you can use to make the mechanical components of a whirligig. I've done woodworking and that part I knew I could do but putting it all together was another matter. This book definitely helped me see how it can be done.

I'm a design engineer, the instructions are all over the book, and in some cases incorrect. Terms for some parts are not correct.I purchased the book for my self, I like to build things as a hobby.I would not recommend this book to a friend.
