HarperCollins Pushing the Limits

First book for this year. And I've gotta tell you, I'm so happy I picked this. Overcoming difficulties, hot tension, romance, everything I could have hoped for in an young adult romance novel. Loved every minute of it. And Katie McGarry's writing is brilliant.

Pushing the Limits erzählt die Geschichte von Echo und Noah. Echo erinnert sich nicht an die Nacht, die ihr Leben vollkommen verändert hat. Dieser eine schreckliche und traumatisierende Vorfall hat sie zum Außenseiter ihrer Schule gemacht, über den alle reden. Dabei kann sie sich einfach nicht daran erinnern und hat Angst, daran verrückt zu werden. Nachdem ihr Vater ihr Kindermädchen geheiratet hat, ihre Mutter untergetaucht ist und ihr Bruder in der Marine gestorben ist, ist sie so ziemlich auf sich allein gestellt.Noah hingegen wurde von einer Pflegefamilie in die nächste gegeben, seit seine Eltern bei einem schrecklichen Feuer ums Leben gekommen sind. Seit seiner ersten Pflegefamilie und einem kleinen Vorfall in eben dieser wird er als Aggressiv und Emotional Instabil eingestuft und hat laut dem Staatssystem kein Anrecht auf seine beiden jüngeren Brüder, die ebenfalls in einer Pflegefamilie leben.Beide sehen sich oft in der Schule, haben aber nichts miteinander zu tun. Bis eine neue klinische Sozialarbeiterin der Schule beide zu Therapiesitzungen mit ihr verdonnert und Echo dazu bringt, Noah beim Lernen zu helfen.Keine Ahnung warum ich dieses Buch nicht schon viel früher gelesen habe! Katie McGarry hat es geschafft, mich zum Lachen und Weinen zu bringen und mein Herz auf eine Weise berührt, welche ich nicht erwartet hätte.Die beiden Hauptcharaktere, aus dessen Sicht dieses Buch abwechselnd erzählt wird, haben mich unglaublich berührt. Echo mit ihren fehlenden Erinnerungen und Albträumen hat mich ständig ins Grübeln gebracht. So dringend, wie sie selbst wissen wollte, was in jener schrecklichen Nacht mit ihr passiert ist, so dringend wollte ich es ebenfalls wissen. Denn bis auf einige Flashbacks und Vermutungen ist dieser Vorfall ein großes schwarzes Loch, ein Geheimnis, in den jeder eingeweiht zu sein scheint, abgesehen von ihr. Beim Lesen habe ich mit Echo gelitten, mit ihr gegrinst und mich mit ihr verliebt.Noah auf der anderen Seite hat mich zu Tränen gerührt, denn kein Mensch sollte so viel durch machen wie er! Seine Geschichte hat mir buchstäblich das Herz gebrochen. Allein auf sich gestellt und von der einzigen Familie, die er übrig hat, getrennt... wirklich nicht einfach. Umso mehr hat es mich als Leser gefreut, dass er in Echo sein Gegenstück und somit auch Liebe gefunden hat. Beide auf ihre eigene Art gebrochen, haben zusammen gepasst, wie die Faust aufs Auge.Obwohl Echo die Außenseiterin ist und Noah der Bad Boy der Schule, schließt man beide schnell ins Herz. Beide Charaktere sind so komplex und vielfältig, dass man beim Lesen immer wieder überrascht ist. Durch den fesselnden Schreibstil, möchte man das Buch nicht aus der Hand legen. Man fiebert mit Echo und Noah mit und möchte, dass sie ihr Happy End endlich bekommen, obwohl es manchmal doch sehr aussichtslos erscheint.Im Besonderen hat mir in diesem Buch das Zusammenspiel der Charaktere gefallen. Echo und Noah waren ein unglaubliches Paar, obwohl sie auf den ersten Blick überhaupt nicht zusammen passen und nichts gemeinsam haben. Aber ich glaube, dass hat ihre Chemie und ihren Charme als Paar ausgemacht, dass sie trotz der Unterschiede so gut zusammen harmoniert haben! Das Einzige was mir ein wenig gefehlt hat, war die sexuelle Spannung. Mir hat manchmal beim Lesen einfach dieser WOW-Effekt gefehlt, aber eben nur manchmal :)Aber nicht nur die Hauptcharaktere haben mich in ihren Bann gezogen, sondern auch die Nebencharaktere. Allen voran Noahs beste Freunde Beth und Isaiah. Beide haben mich mit ihrer Lebensgeschichte, in die man in diesem Teil nur einen kleinen Blick eingewährt bekommt, überrascht, weshalb ich mich sehr auf die nächsten beiden Teile freue, da diese ihre Story erzählen.FAZIT:Ein unglaublich mitreißender und emotional ergreifender erster Teil einer vielversprechenden Reihe mit facettenreichen Charakteren! Dieses Buch MUSS man gelesen haben! Ich für meinen Teil freue mich schon sehr auf Band 2 & 3, welche bereits erschienen sind.

Echo Emerson---2年前に最愛の兄を亡くし、その後体に大きな傷を残すような惨事を経験するが、その記憶がなく、傷を隠し、以前とはまるで別人のようになってしまう。Noah Hutchins---2年前に両親を火事で亡くして以来、里親の元を転々とし、今は別の里子Isaiah、Bethと共にBethの叔母の家で生活している。最初の里親とのトラブルから、実の弟Jacob、Tylerとの面会も制限されているが、いつか親権を手にすることを願い・・・2人とも、Mrs.Collinsのカウンセリングを受けていて、そこから始まり、惹かれあうことになるが・・・両者の目線でストーリーが進み、あっという間に引き込まれてしまった。時には微笑み、時には涙し・・・Echoの葛藤、Noahの絶望感、どうしようもない現実の中もがく2人が歯がゆい。みんなのためにはこれで良かったと思えるラストで本当にホッとしました。・・・でもやっぱ切ないです。

The book for me did not deliver anything much more than what I have read in books from similar genre. I understand that there is a whole bunch of people who are in love with the Pushing the Limit series but somehow for me it was just a repetition of what i have read in couple of another books. Either it is me who clearly had overdone reading this genre or the basic plot of the book itself that made me not connect with the book.The book has got multiple point of view narration and as usual for me the male point of view was a bit scratchy at the start but then the progress was good and a clear distinguish between the female character, Echo and male character Noah’s narration started to emerge. The story is sort of the usual tried and tested formula adopted by the New Adult Genre.Bad boy and Good Girl with Issues….. CheckJoined by the divine intervention of High school Project….. CheckFell in Love…… CheckFell apart….. CheckGet together… CheckProblems Solved… Happy ending…. Check..CheckThe book starts with the usual tactic of boy and girl joined together by the power vested by High school projects and what starts as snarky comebacks and hate culminates into a love that will burn bridges to help each other ….blah blahWhat I liked in the book is the fact that the author just like any other author has portrayed our female character as sharp tongued and witty and unlike her counterparts, Katie Mcgarry has maintained that till the end but unfortunately our male protagonist gets through a character makeover by the end of the book and he cannot be the bad boy that brought us to him in the first place.The book is good for a one time read but it kind of rides on the same basic structure that is seen in most of the new young adult books. Even though there is a bit of element at the end of the story, the basic structure of the book is same

4/5 Stars.Echo Emerson had a normal life. She was the most popular girl in school, had the hottest boyfriend that loved her, a family she loved most in the world, talents and very good grades. So how did she go from popular to loner freak so quickly? All because of an incident with her mother, that no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't remember what happened. And the rest of her family? They are all determined to keep it that way. They said 'therapy' was supposed to help. Well, they couldn't possibly expect Noah. Noah is the dangerous bad boy her family warned her about. No one ever questioned what happened to her arms. Either, they already knew or thought they did and blamed her. But Noah was different. He was the only one who would listen, the only one who understood and the only one who would help her find the truth. Echo knows that the feelings they start to feel for each other are forbidden. But sometimes to find your destiny you need to break ALL the rules.The beginning of the book was really good, i think mainly because the description of settings was fantastic, and that's rare.The characters were all realistic, developed and i could easily picture them in my mind. They were all interesting but different at the same time. From the first page we start to know Echo and what she thinks about her family. We get to see what kind of girl our main character is, and i really, really liked that. The thing i loved the most was that we get to see both Echo's and Noah's points of view.My feelings were all over the place whilst reading the things that Echo as well as Noah experienced in their life's. I felt so sad that they had to go through so many horrible things that happened to them, but at the same time happy for them that they made it through mentally sane. At the beginning both of them are broken and depressed ( I mean, who wouldn't after everything each of them had to go through?), but at the end they change into 2 confident and strong characters. I totally loved that change.The scenes between Noah and Echo were intense and romantic. There were a few action scenes and many funny moments that made you want to keep reading. I just adored Noah's 2 little brothers and his 2 best friends, i found them so intriguing and was so happy that they had their own part in the story.However, as much as i love Pushing the Limits there were some bad things as well.1. I got so confused at the end ( when Echo started to remember what actually happened to her). One minute she is driving with Noah and then BOOOM! She has flash backs of that night and we find her in the hospital. Ermmm... " What in the world happened?"2. I Didn't like the very ending, that too got me confused. Everything happened just to quick for my brain to process and keep up with the story. I was literally going back and checking if i accidentally missed a page or two.Overall, Pushing the Limits is defiantly worth the time, money and if you enjoy teen love story's then this book is for you. Love it!
