This movie is flipping funny

I didn't know anything about this movie when I purchased it, but I bought it for two reasons. 1) I'm a fan of Julia Stiles, and 2) It was selling for a good price. What I ended up with was a wonderful gem of a movie that was a delight to watch. Basically this movie is about a family that is as kooky and wacky as they are loving towards one another. None of them is perfect, and some have bigger flaws than others, but deep down they have a love for each other that very few families have.At the heart of the movie is Carolina, who is somewhere torn between adoring her family and being completely embarrassed by them. She's afraid of introducing any new man to her family because she's worried they will scare him off. The only man to accept her family is Albert who is her neighbour and best friend. He adores her family as equally as they adore him, and it's obvious from the start who Carolina should be with, but unfortunately she's a bit dense and doesn't see it. Especially since she had her eyes on a dashing English man who seems too good to be true. Probably because he is.As flawed and dysfunctional as this family is, I found myself wishing I was a part of their clan. They are there for each other no matter what, and in the end that is what family is about. No matter how crazy they are.I adored this movie, and it has now become one of my favourites.

Interesting quirky movie. Stopped watching bc it was in standard aspect, cut off at both sides. Beware! Finished watching on another service. I am trying to get a refund, but there seems to be no real provision for that!

"The Strangest Treasure" music video on YouTube shows the real life women portrayed in 'CAROLINA' by Shirley MacLaine (Grandma Mirabeau) and Jennifer Coolidge (Aunt Marilyn). 'CAROLINA' is based on Katherine Fugate's wildly eccentric side of her family and is pretty accurate. Anyone who has watched 'CAROLINA' will find it fascinating to see the music video mentioned since it combines home movie extracts of the actual people the film is about. In "The Strangest Treasure" you'll discover that the real Marilyn is a platinum blonde more eccentric than Jennifer Coolidge, who portrays her in 'CAROLINA' (though the dialogue in the film is real). Several of Marilyn's girls, a pretty black one, white one and white one with an afro, are seen in front of the orange door of what had been Marilyn's most popular massage parlor. Marilyn's son, who helped manage the parlors and was nicknamed "J.P." for "Junior Pimp" (since he was still a high school student), is seen trying to climb out of a grave. Trivia: For some reason Katherine changed everyone's name in 'CAROLINA' except for her Aunt Marilyn's. Katherine's other favorite aunt, from the tamer side of the family, has an actual role in 'CAROLINA'. She is non other than the beautiful Barbara Eden. This is an accurate movie about a real life family and perhaps Katherine Fugate's (the writer's) farewell to them.

Wife has been looking for this for a few years now, she was not disappointed. Although it originally came in Spanish, we quickly worked out the audio button and got the English version playing.

pelicula muy aburrida y tipica, que se salva gracias a shirley maclaine.el argumento es previsible. La protagonista es muy sosa.

Über diesen Film bin ich rein zufällig gestolpert und finde es schade, dass er mir nicht schon im Programmkino aufgefallen ist. Eine Geschichte wie sie das Leben schreibt, realistische Charaktere ohne das übliche überzogene Hollywood Acting. Eine junge Frau leidet unter der Freizügigkeit ihrer Familienmitglieder: der Chaos-Großmutter, der in den Tag hinein lebenden einen Schwester, der etwas verrückten jüngsten Schwester, dem alkoholkranken Vater, der ein Bordell führenden Tante. Sie selbst ist eher bescheiden, gebildet, nüchtern und bodenständig. Einzig normal und stabil wirkt ihre freundschaftliche Beziehung zum Nachbarn, der vom Schreiben erotischer Liebesromane lebt. Hier schaut man einfach gerne zu und fühlt mit.

Dieser Film fängt ziemlich schräg an und endet irgendwie sehr schön, wenngleich auch ein bißchen traurig, trotz Happyend.Das ganze Szenario spielt sich in coolen Locations ab, der Ton ist deftig, aber trotzdem warm menschlich. Shirley MacLainespielt eine ziemlich flippige Grandma - grandios. Eine Familie jenseits der Norm, bestehend aus Trinkern, Huren und Knastbesuchern,kunterbunt, laut, nicht schön, aber menschlich. Schöne Szenen, schöne Bilder, fesselnd, gute Unterhaltung.

I found this film touching. I watched it a few years ago and didn't buy it. Watching it again I would recommend it to others.
