I love this book and reach for it first when writing descriptions.

Quite possibly one of the best writing resources for fiction writers ever! I purchased this book because I've used a similar method, but this workbook breaks it down even further and expands the concept of sensory writing charts farther than I ever imagined. And speaking of imagination, the author explicitly teaches writers how to capture their creativity and get it those vivid descriptions onto the page.

While ostensibly a writing guide for middle- to high-school age students, this workbook is useful for helping you string together words to come up with some beautiful metaphors for whatever descriptive writing you're trying to enhance. It teaches you that words are building blocks that can be strung together. Don't have a metaphor handy for inspiration? No worries... This book teaches you how to create your own.Now if you infuse -all- of your writing this heavily you'll be accused of writing purple prose. But when you just don't know how to describe something, this will help you generate a page full of examples upon which you will likely find 3 or 4 that you like.My only grip is the lack of clear spacing between paragraphs in the descriptive portions of this text. They were neither spaced, nor indented, making it difficult to read. The most valuable part of this book are all the tables, but please ... indent? It cost the book a star.

I was dubious that a book could improve my creative writing, but reviewers were saying it helped theirs, so I purchased this book. I have to say, it's one of the best decisions I've made in my life. It completely woke up the creative center in my brain and taught me to think differently. Before reading this book, my writing was a bowl of oats. Now it's a ten-tiered, frosted, rainbow cake wrapped in a fairy-pink bow ... and sprinkled with stardust!

Excellent source to really take your creative writing to the next level. Each chapter focuses on one skill and walks you through it. This is not for the beginner writer, but someone who is more advanced and needs more refined techniques.

It is a different way of explaining how to write and I benefited from having read this book, but it is not as thorough as I had hoped. It’s more a personal list of words that the author likes, not a compendium of the English lexicon (i.e., a list of all of the words that we use to describe the author’s categories of things).

I liked it was in seasons and the adjectives are ones I have not heard of I love the bookand found it helpful in writting

I enjoy flipping though this book and absorbing all of the imagery and beautiful words it has at its disposal.

For me, as an individual who writes and loves words, this book is perfect. It offers all kinds of stimulating words, images and metaphors. Most are uplifting. Most are descriptions of nature and the seasons. Easy to use.

It's really a good book, but on my kindle I can't see all the boards with the adjectives/adverbs etc., it's a shame, it's the only reason I don't give it 4 stars.

This was a very interesting read, full of things that I never, personally thought about. I recommend this book, for all you fellow budding writers!

I am a writer and over the last 7 years I have written 3 novels. As a writer I am always looking for creative inspiration. I have always been incredible lucky to have a creative pathway to expression, but even writers do become samey. All my novels have been written through different eyes. Sometime a woman's; sometimes a man's and sometimes through a God-like character, therefore the language has to change to suit the narrator. I was browsing the internet for new creative ways of expression and this book popped up. Realising it was sold by Amazon so had to investigate further. I was really impressed how the book was laid out and easy to follow. Although my writing is not overly flowery, but it is fiction, I have found this book incredibly helpful whilst sourcing new words and expression. You can use the dictionary, or thesaurus, but this just adds a little more flavour to ones' work. What this book is great at doing is giving examples of creative writing and highly creative writing, so you have a choice. The book is a lot bigger than I Imagined it to be and I am dipping in and out of it all the time. You do not have to be a dedicated writer like myself to own a book like this. Everyone expresses themselves in one way or another. It would appeal to spoken words, acting, song writing, poetry, novelist, creative essays or just plain old expression. What a great investment.
