Steam Works Board Game

Of various steampunk-themed games, this is my favorite so far. Players assemble various devices from assorted parts all in the pursuit of prestige. Some devices generate prestige directly, others help you improve other devices or build even more of them. The most difficult part is seeing other players' devices, which is a key element since you can use them for your own benefit. The functions are indicated by tiny icons printed on tiles, and with a large board in the center (from which components are selected), it's difficult to see the various functions of what everyone else has assembled. My friends and I often find ourselves asking, "what does THAT one do?" Yet we like the game enough that we play it anyway.

Love, played once with a friend and chose to bought it. Took a long time for him to go over instructions although my friend is overly detailed. I did not the connect dots until playing it but I really enjoyed. Great long term and short term strategy to play.

I ordered this game for my family and my daughter was super excited to play it. We started by reading the instructions and we still had problems understanding what was going on. We had to search to figure out the ins and outs of the game. Not to mention that one of the tiles was missing from the instructions completely (the Librarifier card definition). We found that explanation online and continued played. After figuring everything out, it was tons of fun.

Interesting characters and methods to build the game devices. 4-player can go a little long, esp. if folks haven’t played the game yet.
