All-Red Saffron Tin (2 gram)

My husband and I love saffron, both the flavor and its rich history, but have never cooked with real saffron before. I have seen yellow, or maybe orange, saffron in the store before, but I don't remember ever seeing such vivid red saffron in real life. To be fair, I had not sought it out, knowing it is one of the most expensive herbs in the world and I did not want to develop a saffron addiction I could not upkeep. I surprise gifted this Afghan Saffron and Tin to my husband, a chef-at-heart, over the Winter holidays after I found it looking at random food gifts on Amazon. A few weeks before I had seen a news story on the rise of saffron farming in Afghanistan to replace opium farms and provide living wage jobs. (You can do a Google News search to learn more about it.) The quality red saffron, the beautiful gift tin, and being from Afghanistan were why I choose it. It arrived very promptly with Amazon Prime shipping. The saffron was packaged inside the tin, and the tin was inside a protective plastic bag. The front of the tin says Mehr Afghan (something I initially missed reading) over top the musician, and the back of the tin has the company information. When I gave it to my husband, not the easiest person to gift, he looked genuinely surprised and very happy. He said it is one of his favorite gifts ever. The color is naturally a rich red-red. It looks and smells like very good quality--but he has not cooked with it yet. He is waiting for just the right recipe, in the new year.Update: He has cooked with it, and it tastes as good as we had hoped. The first thing he made was a delicious funnel cake-like dessert, jalebi.

The quality of this Saffron is superb! The color is deep red and has a very fragrant scent. The taste was very good and is what I would expect to see ONLY in Saffron that was much more expensive than this. The artwork on the tin is beautiful. Everything came packaged nicely and the tin was in a sealed foil pouch and also shrink wrapped. If I could give this 6 stars I would. Don’t hesitate to buy this!

I purchased this saffron to give it a try after reading a lot of the feedback from other Amazon shoppers. The first thing I'd like to address is that the sticker sealing the container shut clearly read "Best before end 2020". Since we're past that date I cracked it open to check the contents. The smell was fine so I crushed up a bit & added it to the tomato based spaghetti sauce I was making at the time. I've used the same recipe for ages & know what it's supposed to taste like. I will say that despite the sticker stating it was past its prime, the saffron really did add a unique, new flavor to the sauce. My girlfriend commented on it as well saying that it normally tastes great but there was something she couldn't put her finger on that was making it better than usual. I've since put it in several other dishes & it's worked well with everything I've tried it in.As a side note; The saffron is very dry & brittle. If you don't have a mortar/pestle like me, I was able to crush it into a fine powder using my thumb pressed into the palm of my hand.

I am pretty amazed by the packaging of this product and the quality. I have seen very authentic saffron and use it alot in our indian dishes. This one definitely is a good one. It smells so good when used in Indian desserts. It is perfect for a gift because of its packaging.

I always use Saffron in my foods and know how pure Saffron taste and smell. This Saffron has a strong scent, taste and color. I added that to rice, stew and also tea and everyone liked it. This product is also a great gift option for the people who like cooking because of amazing design and packaging.

There are two factors that high-quality saffron should have which are its smell and its color. This product has both specification. Comparing this product with its peers that I have used before this is definitely worth its price. Just make sure to seal it after each use so that it does not lose its smell.

Product was expired, but tasted all right. The expiration date, just showed that it was not this year's or last year's crop. Nice tin
