Great but....
I bought this because I downgraded my laptop from vista-crap to XP Sp3 and long story short, I can't get the computer to see the sound card in the laptop. (Never buy HP)This product works very well but initially I was very disappointed with the quality and here's why. Unless you have a USB hub to plug it into, YOU'RE GOING TO GET POOR SOUND QUALITY AND STATIC. I.E. if you plug directly into the computer the thing is total garbage.I was so disheartened to learn this upon trying it but, as I said, I tried putting it into a USB hub-man that I happen to have to see what would happen and lo, excellent quality. Complete 180.For this small discrepancy I can't condone a 5 star but It's a small problem to work around unless you don't have a multiport hub or need to use one.I haven't tried out the mic port though because I don't have one. So as far as I know, you put both in and it turns to garbage again. I'll write back when I find out.

Works great right out of the, uhm, baggie
Works great with my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6. Just plug it in and go.The sound output is clear and undistorted, even at full volume. (It's better in this regard than my Griffin iMic, which cost six times as much and suffers from distortion at high volume levels and interference from nearby cables and cell phones.)I haven't tested the microphone input (it isn't important to me).A small thing: the product description says "Include Xear 3D, the 7.1 channel sound simulation software for Windows XP/Vista/Win7", but this isn't true. All that arrived was a little baggie containing the adapter and a scrap of cardboard that had been cut from the back of the original package. But the adapter works fine on my Mac, and the Xear software isn't important to me.

Works great for me
I bought this to use with a headset/mic for my iMac that only has a line-in mic port. I have it plugged into a USB hub and it's been working great. I like that the headphone/mic ports are part of a separate unit from the USB plug so there's no stress on the USB port when you plug the headphones in/out. The one thing I don't like about it is the bright red LED light, it flashes constantly when in use which is very irritating so I had to cover it with tape. This adapter is very reasonably priced and I'm happy with it.

Works good for basic headphone use, 7.1 not usable...
Works good in stereo, fast shipping, Plug and play with win7 64. have not found any virtual surround software that works with these including the recommended Xear 3D. Downloaded Xear 3D driver as it was listed on instruction card as Requirement. Spent 15 min. trying to find the software. Then the program would not recognize the adapter. So I subtracted 2 stars for having a 7.1 adapter that will only work as stereo. Still... It works well as a basic USB sound card adapter... I also purchased New SYBA Accessory SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adapter RoHS Sound Retail High Quality and they work just as well.. I like the extension on the USB plug though it keeps my ports less cluttered.

This 2 piece unit is much better than the 1 piece unit
I like this 2 piece system much better than the one piece that I purchased about 4 months ago. It was the (7.1 Channel USB External Sound Card Audio Adapter). It worked great for a while, then it started shorting out because there is too much 'wear and tear' with the one piece system, if you move your laptop around a lot like I do. I was actually beginning to wonder if the one piece unit wasn't "stripping" out one of my usb ports because it was becoming not such a snug fit....at all. This two piece system works great so far and I'm thinking that the extra wire between the two unit allows for much less wear and tear on the component, and my laptop. : )

Does it work? YES Does it work well? NO!
I bought this to use on my iMac so I could swap back and fourth between headphones and internal speakers without constantly having to reach behind the iMac and plug the headphones in.The device was detected and worked... The issue I had was there was no bass at all through this card.. I could plug my headphones in straight to the Mac and get great bass but through this device it was complete flat tone.. It would work in a pinch but just not the quality of sound that I was looking for so I am sending it back.On another note... Whenever the device is active with sound you get this annoying blinking red light on the dongle that never stops... I guess it is so you know the device is working but hey! would not the fact sound is coming through it assure me of that?

Crystal Clear Compatibility
I had a cheap USB sound card that was adding noise to my headset. I bought another cheap USB sound adapter, and software volume control didn't work, and I went back to the noisy one. Finally, a few weeks ago, I got around to trying another cheap USB sound card. This one is superb! No audible noise. Software volume control works. Drives my headset with no problem. Mic input is also crystal clear. I'll be buying another one before they stop making it (which always seems to happen when you find something good).BTW, I am using it on Fedora 16 Linux, and there are no compatibility problems.

It work(ed)
I have a pair of headphones that had two jacks that could not plug into my macbook. I used this and my headphones worked properly for a while. I stopped using it for a little while and found that Windows no longer identified it. It also seemed that the red light on the front was no longer lit. I'm guessing it broke, so it worked for a while, then it broke. Oh well, it was cheap and worked for a little while.
