small sized copy with chapter numbers
I had one copy of The Rule that did not have the chapter numbers but am thankful this one does. It's small size easily fits in my bag or purse. Font is easily read. Perfect for any Oblate!

Worth Buying and Worth Reading
This is a tight, sharp, clean little work. Benedict is clear and precise, with limited words. His rules seem a bit strict to my modern mind (not a fan of the idea of beating children) but I understand that during the time, this was acceptable and even laudable. My inherent mistrust of humans causes me to ask whether Benedict's rule would work - there is much room for the miss-use of power. The answer, of course, is that each monk should be so devoted to Christ that he exudes the humility and kindness of the Lord. But humans are notoriously prone to self-interest and to the use of religious belief and the name of God to further their own agenda. That aside, this was a worthwhile read. To understand how the Benedictine monks lived, and to perhaps find wisdom for living ones own life. One doesn't need to be a monk to require advice on how to deal with other humans in a manner pleasing to God. This book offers excellent assistance in that area: worth reading and worth buying.

Interesting, at least
I had a dream that I found a book that said, "The rule of St Benedict" and was looking at it in my hands. From behind me a hand came over my shoulder, pointing at the book, and said, "READ THIS!"Actually, that's not a joke, that really happened. It was so clear I obviously had to buy the book. The first few pages really touched my heart and convicted me of laziness, and I couldn't read through tears so I put it down for a while. When I picked it up again I found the rest of the book to be interesting, and perhaps inspiring to live a life of even more simplicity, although I do think that the rule itself is not for everyone, and shouldn't be taken by most people. Obviously. Thats why you have to move to a monestary to take it. I was expecting this book to be a message from the Lord about how to live my life from now on, but I found it to be more of an inspiration and provocation to be zealous for holiness, though the rule itself may be too similar to throwing off the spirit of grace to embrace the law.I'm glad I got it though. It came promptly and in very good condition, too.

Well written
For anyone who has a desire to live in a monastery, this book is well informative. This book sets out to displays a variety of rules to be obediently obeyed. Enjoy! Very inspirational for those who seek to have a prayerful life and to give of themselves to God alone. If you have the will and the love for God in your heart then by all means follow the rules of this book. May God guide you through your prayers and through the rules of this book.

A little book with a big impact in history
Written around the year 510, The Rule gave structure and sound principles formonks could live and work together in an ordered life that gave security andstability. Benedict sought to lay down "nothing harsh, nothing burdensome".The Rule contains directions for all aspects of monastic life, so the brotherscould go about their duties without "justifiable grumbling". The Rule comescomplete with job descriptions for the the Abbot and his staff. This little book was used in the great monasteries throughout Europe for centuries. Is has proved relevant to people of all classes of society throughfifteen hundred years. A good example of the continuing relevance is the job description of thecellarer, or the keeper of the supply room. "If any brother happens to makean unreasonable demand of him, he should not reject him with disdain andcause him distress, but reasonably and humbly deny the improper request".Further, "If goods are not available to meet a request, he will offer a kindword in reply". Above all, The Rule is the writing of a deeply spiritual man.His spirituality centers on "the love of Christ must come before allelse"

Detailed
The book is still use by monks up to this day, I am a kid of the seventies, it is my nature since childhood that I dont like food. So, when I read this book, I am not surprise of myself, even monks eat less.

Easy to read and nice
Simply brilliant, Saint Benedict is one of my patron Saints as I regularly invoke him. I got interested in reading his rule after hearing DR Brant Pitre quote him on a short catholic productions video on YouTube. I haven't finished reading it but have read few of the rules especially on humility and it's very practical although some sections of the book were meant for monks I think we can make good use of many of the rules as lay people

A must for anyone with any interest in Western spirituality
Anyone who has any interest in Western spirituality - and yes, Western spirituality has a lot to offer, the good stuff isn't all in the East - should have the Rule of St. Benedict. For years now I have owned it in Latin and German and have read it regularly. I am not an especially religious person but the RB one way or another provides me with guideposts to help me live my life. It breathes a breath of something eternal and I always feel better in some way for having looked into it; it serves to center me. I wanted to give a friend a copy of the RB in English and chose this excellent little edition, put out by the Benedictines themselves, so what could be more authentic? And it was so reasonable that I ordered three: one for my friend, one for myself as I didn't have it in English, and one as a spare, you never know when someone might urgently need a copy of the Rule :-)
