Skins: Season 1

Watchable, but it could have been so much better.
And it ended not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with a shout.Yes, season one, which could end up being the only season MTV airs of this show, has finished. I think one thing we can definitively say is that it wasn't the British version, no matter how hard it sometimes tried to be.First, I didn't hate it. I liked a lot of it, but there was a lot that really needed work. Several of the characters were more interesting than their UK counterparts (Caddie and Tea most notably), but there were many others that I just didn't care for, Tony chief among them. What in the British version had been a character was ruthless, manipulative and very intelligent became in the American version a fairly whiny, petulant little boy who got cranky when he couldn't hook up with the lesbian girl as often as he wanted. Most of the characters, though, I felt toward pretty much the same as I did with the UK characters. Michelle, Daisy, Stanley... none of them were notably different enough to really get my attention one way or the other as comparisons go and I suppose that's an ok thing. As for the stories, well... they were usually fairly good when they weren't just adaptations of the UK stories. When the show went into original territory, like with Tea's episode, it proved it could do a really good job. The adaptation episodes, especially the finale, just did not hold up, though the Canadian trip episode was original enough compared with the Russian counterpart that it still came out good.I will say that at least I liked this season better than I did series three and four of the UK version. This show at least has spared us Freddy and Effy's stupid love affair.Overall I liked this season enough to want to have a second one. MTV hasn't said there will be one, and since they didn't have the decency to end the season on a cliffhanger nearly as impressive as what they did with the first series in the UK, I'm inclined to doubt there will be. But there was one thing that they did do that amused me, in that just like the British version it at least ended with music, though Tears for Fears rather than Cat Stevens.

Awful but I liked it
I remember when this first aired on tv in the late 2000s and caused such a stir. Kids are participating in all sorts of devious acts: smoking weed in the bathroom between classes, drinking at raves, popping pills 24/7, having inappropriate sexual relationships, passing around STDs, listening to dubstep, etc. Things the average person knows does not happen to this degree for the most part in real life. It's all an exaggerated fantasy about bored, stupid, privileged kids which is why no one under 18 should watch it.I never watched the UK version. It's pretty much Degrassi but with poorer writing and worse behavior without the real messages or lessons to learn. You can tell they really tried to be too edgy with this show and it got canned bc they overdid it. Everyone is a hot mess but I'm here for it.

It is one of my favorite shows. I really like that it shows the ...
It is easily one of my favorite shows of all time. I don't want to say that it shows the "true lives of teens" because I didn't live a life like this when I was a teen but there are definitely people who lived lives similar to this. Some people argue that there is too much sex and drug use and that not all teens live like this. Much like the U.K original version each character has an episode centered on them while the the overall story is still going on. Many people do not like this incarnation of skins and will say the U.K version is better. I personally prefer this one better. Many of the U.S versions characters are extremely similar to the U.K versions but Tea, the U.S version of Maxxie, in my opinion is not only more interesting than her U.K counterpart but also than all of the series 1 U.K version. The music featured throughout the show is some of the coolest indie music I've ever heard I suggest checking some of the songs out.

Not given a chance
Oh this tv show as as the title is saying not given a chance and I blame it on the PTC. They rode this tv into the ground. Calling it complete trash which it wasn't. Oh I like personally liked it because this was a chance for Americans to identify with the realistic sometimes extreme teen life. Seeing the first episodes and how the actors interacted. I loved there interaction and how the teens were always either fighting or making up and trying to find themselves. It wasnt all about drugs and sex it was deeper. Since all there families were not really functional and it shows how families are an important aspect of life. If this show was given a chance and not censored every FRIGGEN second I feel it could have been much better then the UK version. Sadly it was not to be since the PTC are like watch dogs of teen drama and the only thing they want is Disney and Nick drama which is sad since real life isn't like Disney or Nick its harsh and very hard.[...]

(3 WORDS) I LOVE SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG! NEVER SEEN A SHOW THAT IS REALLY GOOD IN A LONG TIME. IM REALLY HAPPY THAT I BOUGHT MY OWN COPY OF SKINS EVEN IF I ALREADY SEEN EVERY EPISODE ON MTV. SKINS IT'S REALLY DIFFERENT FROM OTHER SHOWS WELL THATS MY OPINION I GET A DIFFERENT FEELING WHEN WATCHING THIS SHOW FROM DEGRASSI. I LOVE DEGRASSI AS WELL BUT THE FEELING I GET FROM SKINS IS LIKE SOMETHING I NEVER GOT IN A SHOW, AND IM REALLY REALLY UPSET THAT MTV WOULD LET A BEAUTY SHOW GO. THIS SHOW DEALS WITH REAL SITUATIONS THAT TEENAGES GO THOUGH TODAY. I SAY MTV SHOULD HAVE GIVEN IT A ANOTHER SEASON TO SEE HOW IT GOES FROM THERE THEN DETERMINATE TO KEEP THE SHOW FOR OTHER SEASONS. THIS SHOW COULD HAVE HELP OUT ALOT OF PEOPLE. I HERD LOTS OF PEOPLE SAID IT HELP THEM WITH THERE FRIENDS. I DONT CARE WHAT PEOPLE SAY SKINS (UK) IS BETTER THAN THE (US) SKINS I DONT CARE. SKINS WILL BE SKINS NO MATTER WHAT. I WILL LOVE SKINS FOREVER, AND IM HAPPY THAT I FOUND IT BUT IT SUCKS IT'S GONE. YOU WILL BE MISSED *SKINS*
