Extra Spiffy!
OK! So this is nothing more than a glorified cardboard product, but it is a furniture-saver and cat-pleaser, nonetheless. I love it! I've tried several of these with my cats nearly 10 years ago, and all they did was make a horrid mess I had to constantly pick up. The cats also tore through them like nobody's business, and I was too broke to keep replacing them. I've tried posts and even free, spare carpeting. The spare carpeting was the only thing that lasted, but those aren't much better when it comes to the mess, and they aren't exactly cost effective.I decided to try this product due to the wide size of it, but I turned out to be more than impressed. It's much sturdier than the older version I've used, and it seems to last a crazy-long time, helping me to save money. It also doesn't shed half as much as others I've used--at least, not until they've massacred it as much as they could. Even then it's still not as bad.Per someone else's suggestion on here, I flipped the insert over when I noticed it was getting worn down, which worked great and it was like new again. I ordered it in July and it would still be good to go, despite consistent, daily use; however, one of my cats apparently loved it so much, that they decide to yack all over it. I cleaned it up as best as I could and re-flipped it to the older side until I can purchase a new one. It's still working great--though my inner germaphobe is after a new one. This has been doing a wonderful job of saving door frames, beds, and prohibited areas of carpet. I was really worried they wouldn't grasp the transition from the pads of carpet I had out for them (which they actually stuck to while in use, amazingly enough), but they took right to the Catit. Only thing I'd change would be the ugly-ish font on the side for a more pleasing graphic, but it's not a huge deal. I've also started to consider the idea of attaching rubber shelf liner to the bottom to help keep it in place, as it does get moved about a bit much--again, not a huge deal. I also don't know where they get their catnip from, but it must be some A-Grade stuff! My cats go super nuts over it, which is rare, and I just do a little sprinkle every few months. I sometimes look down at them with envy as they roll around in a near-euphoric state. So not fair...

cats love them and they seem to be good quality
This review is for the large scratchers. I bought three of these recently. I'm very happy with the purchase and will no doubt be ordering a few more quite soon. These are large enough for a full grown cat to sit on. I've put a couple of these scratchers in my dining room windows (the windows reach down to the floor) and various cats (I have five) enjoy sitting on these and looking out the window for most of the afternoon. The scratchers are also big enough that, even on a relatively smooth floor (my dining room has hardwood floors), a large cat (12+ pounds) scratching at one of these doesn't make it move across the floor. I've also put one upstairs on carpet and the cats like sitting there (and scratching it) too. These come with a little packet of catnip and I guess it is good catnip. The cats seem enthusiastic, anyway. It takes quite a lot of vigorous scratching to do much damage to these, and you can always just flip the insert over for a fresh surface, so they last a pretty long time. (You can also add your own catnip to refresh from time to time.) Plus, most importantly, having these around helps keep my cats from scratching the upstairs carpet or the expensive dining room rug.In the end, my cats are happy and I am happy so these were a definite win!

For Matt the Cat
I have been purchasing these since July 2011. I reposted my review because the new forms now allow for posting a picture, which I sent with this review but for some reason Amazon did not post. In 2011 the price was $6.90 each including super saver shipping with orders over $25. I really appreciate this price because they sell for up to $5 more in pet stores. My cat grew up with these so I have to have them. Because of these he has never gone near my furniture to scratch. Over 10 years he has really grown; we're talking 20 pounds, and he is very long, almost 19 inches, resembling a miniature mountain lion. The wide scratcher will accommodate him nicely, and he took to it immediately. The catnip is a nice touch; unbelievably some scratchers come without it. I like that the box and sides are heavier cardboard, which is needed to support the scratcher and the cat. You don't have to buy anything else; this is not an insert and is complete as is. Remember to flip the scratcher over at some point so that your cat gets maximum use of it.March 23, 2013 update: I keep reordering this scratcher, even though when Matt really starts shredding it, I have to vacuum the kitchen floor daily (using a dustbuster). Why? Because Matt just plain loves these so much, especially when they are brand new with fresh catnip. He is cheap entertainment, rolls on it constantly, and, frankly, it has become like his security blanket. I hate that he tracks the shreddings all through the house, but I would hate it even more if he scratched on the furniture or other cloth items.November 21, 2013 update: Amazon is running these at $5.49 each, so it is worth it to stock up on a few extra. Matt goes crazy when I first put the catnip on it...cheap entertainment and my furniture remains untouched.

“Wide” is Not wide anymore.
I’ve ordered this “wide” cat scratcher twice before. The width has changed. If this is wide, then the narrow one would only be good for little kitten. Won’t be ordering this anymore.

It's cardboard ... But...
So, it arrives & your first thought is ... It's a lump of cardboard! You've just paid 7 quid for a lump of cardboard. The instructions tell you to replace it when it's worn. You chuckle to yourself & decide you won't fall for that one again. You take it out of it's packaging & as you're doing so, the cat watches from it's spot on the sofa, silently judging you for appearing to have spent 7 quid on cardboard. You look at the now despairing cat as you follow the not so weighty tome that is the instructions and proceed to sprinkle catnip onto the 7 quid cardboard, maintaining eye contact throughout. Then you step away.Cautiously she approaches, trying to figure out if it's true. If it really IS a lump of cardboard that the fool has purchased. The same fool that spent £40 on that eyesore cat tree that I pretend to not care about so he gets into trouble with the other person that lives here (the one that appears to be boss), only for me to wait till they're all in bed before going crazy on it.Yep, she decides. It's cardboard. But wait. I like lying on it... and stretching... and scratching. OH MY WORD, THE SCRATCHING!!! How amazing is this, she thinks. And she never leaves it again.Does she still scratch that carpet? Yeah a little bit.Does she like the cardboard? Absolutely! Will you pay another 7 quid for more? Certainly will! But is it really just cardboard? Yep, but it's awesome!

Usefull for nut job cats 🤣
My cat from day one as a tiny kitten has never attempted to scratch my furniture or even her massive cat tower she literally uses it as a bed lol right at the top so she can keep her beady eyes on the household. But big BUT she has wrecked my carpets EVERYWHERE! She clearly enjoys sharpening her claws downwards on the the carpet all around the edges, in the corners too, by doors. Little minx, I wish I had found this product sooner before she wrecked my carpet but oh well bit late now. She loves this scratching pad it does make a bit of mess but I'd rather clean up little bits of cardboard than see holes in my carpet. I will probs replace carpet soon and dot even more of these around for my little mrs scissor hands. But if ur cat likes going at your carpet try them there cheap reversible and easily replaced unlike my 2 year old carpet. Lesson learned good luck diva scissor hand nut job owners 😄

I likes it!
My hooman got this for me and my bruver and I really likes it. There is something magic about it and it smells real good. Sometimes I do scratch it as I feel frisky and my claws are really long, but mostly I sits and sleeps on it. Mum says it's a bit of a bargain.

Brilliant. Dave loves it.
Well this is the first time Dave has ever taken to a thing designed for cats. He absolutely loves it. He uses it like a wireless charging pad, sitting on it for an hour then coming for cuddles and running round like an idiot. He now scratches only here and all the furniture has breathed a sigh of relief, as has my partner.Just ordered another one so has two to run between.
