Enjoyed it a lot more then I thought
I generally don't pick up light novels (despite the category that states "manga" this is very much a novel -- be warned!) that have 0 stars or anything below a 4, but I was snared by 3 things I generally enjoy.1. Isekai2. Elves3. 4x Strategy Games (I am a big Total War fan).Really 1 and 2 is commonplace but 3? That gave me enough reason to give this a whirl and boy was I glad to take that chance. The most similar story I can compare this to is Overlord as this is a Dark Fantasy, albeit it contains enough differences to the point where I don't think there are really any overlaps. Overlord is a Dark Fantasy of a MMORPG and Apocalypse is a Dark Fantasy 4x Strategy Game.I particularly enjoyed the aspects of 4x terms being mentioned in the story without bogging down in the super nitty gritty details that some stories would take (e.g: pages of skill break-downs that bogs the overall story-telling). The characters are pretty interesting with a decent balance of humor and malice and the MC in particular doesn't completely lose the humanity in him while being reborn (though how much humanity is left in him is up in the air right now).I would recommend giving this story a shot, unfortunately a sample doesn't really cut it. I am going to hunt down the web novel versions as the author mentions the 2 novel types are different in some areas and this story has me gravitating to want more.

This is my first light novel ever.
As a watcher of anime isekai in preference. I was hesitant to get into reading as I may not have time. After browsing and choosing this LN over the others, im so glad I did. Not only was it worth it, but I finished the book in less time than I thought. The world building sucked me in. The characters are great, and the whole plot gets better as I read. I will be continuing this series! I am now an official light novel reader.

Not original but fun to read.
Not a very original story, but still was fun to read. The story is quite tedious in some parts and the characters are well described. A couple of plots to be developed in future volumes are introduce, hopefully new characters will be introduced and the story will get more exciting.

Excellent Read
I highly recommend this book. I recently finished the newly published Volume 4 of this series and it did not disappoint. I could not find a single grammatical mistake in Volume 4 and although I don't remember, I imagine it's the same for the first through third volumes as well. The writing flows well and the author knows how to hook you.So, what's this book about? Essentially, the main character finds themselves waking up in a different world alongside their favorite game character, Sludge Atou. He was sick in his previous life and didn't have a lot of friends. Both of them are unaware of how they wound up there. These two characters share a deep, loving bond, and I love how close they are. The two of them have to face the world as the King of Ruin and Sludge Atou from a video game about building an empire. It's great.TL;DR: Great read. Excellent writing. Well fleshed out characters. Pick it up!

Good stuff!
I recall reading another series, Her Majesty's Swarm, that was similar. Based on strategy games, in charge of an "evil civilization" but where that light novel is pretty bland and poorly paced (and honestly just badly written) Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra knocked it out of the park! I was expecting another mediocre light novel that I would forget about the next day, and instead I got one of the best volumes I've ever read! I read it on a flight and couldn't put it down, when I landed I thought "I'm here already?" I was actually disappointed the flight wasn't longer so I had to wait until I got home to finish it! Don't hesitate if you like isekai

Surprisingly good.
I really enjoyed volume one! It's definitely a classic protagonist-is-a-villain isekai (complete with being 'evil', while also cute and kind), but unusually for an isekai, the world feels balanced. The challenges facing the main characters are real, and even in their personalities, their strengths feel nicely balanced with their weaknesses.Because it happens so often in these light novels, I worry that the upcoming volumes will devolve into authorial wish-fulfillment rather than staying on course with the interesting plot, but so far I have zero complaints. I'm very much looking forward to volume two.

Great!
Read it along with the manga for visuals and wasn't disappointed! It's dark fantasy but in more tamed way. Highly recommend if you're into it.

Decent read, but missing something
Takuto Ira is a teenager, stuck in the hospital his whole life, who spend his time playing a fantasy strategy king. When he finally dies, he ends up in a new world together with his favourite hero from said game: Atou, champion of the evil empire Mynoghra. Atou is well aware of Takuto's background and together they decide to start a new game. First things first, explore the world and find a place to set up a new base. The story has some intrigue world building with characters raising questions I as a reader asks myself as well. I really like the system messages and Wikipedia-like screens at the end of each chapter either detailing the mechanics of a specific game element. These mechanical elements are in the background, invisible to the people of the world, mostly just in the mind of the MC and they are not intrusive. It does raises some interesting questions on what is going on, questions asked by the MC as well. Mynoghra is evil, but as of yet it is not too dominant and even the characters admit they are not acting too evil, which at times feel a bit odd with the hard coded alignment system. There is a spark missing for me though, not sure whether there is not enough kingdom building, too much talking or the cringe moments when Takuto falls in a depression over the littlest of things even though his social anxieties make sense. It just a bit too over the top for me. While not a surprise, I am also not a very big fan of villainous protagonists, and while at the moment it is all tame (mostly: evil because the world says I am evil), it is something that makes me a bit weary. All in all, it was a decent read, but not as enjoyable to me as other books.

I haven't finishined this yet, imo with the buy.
I throughly enjoy this IP, it's dark, twisted, and just good, it's takes a step away from the overpowered starting main character, you normally find in this genre.

Well worth reading
This very much had me hooked. In the first five volumes there are plenty of surprises and interesting ideas. A very exciting and unusual isekai story. Well worth reading.

Isekai / Game / Grotesque
It’s an isekai story based on empire building games like Warhammer & Co. Also while it includes grotesque and violence it fits the overall world building. So if you like e.g. Overlord you’ll probably find this one to your liking too!

An interesting start
A very unique take on empire building in an Isekai world, I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses in the future and what truths shall be revealed and exactly why the MC appears the way he does to others and occasionally the fmc.
